Removing Starter Motor - '78 KZ650

sbruton

Where the fvck is that money you owe me?!?
I'm planning to pull the starter motor and associated electrical bits off my 78 KZ650 (kick start only)... I'm just wondering if there is some skookum plate or some sort of seal to patch the hole in the case where the motor was located? There is a cover plate that goes over top, but I need to plug the hole in the case....

Any thoughts or ideas?

I've never seen one for the KZ650 which is a bit weird. I know a lot of guys use a regular automotive freeze plug. Wouldn't be bad on the KZ since it wouldn't be in plain sight anyway. Cheap too.

Thanks Deacon! I'll look around some of the automotive shops in town.

You're right - it doesn't have to be pretty since the cover plate will hide it.

Good or not so much?

I ended up getting my bro to machine a plug for me with a couple of O-rings. It's a friction fit, but seems to be working well with no signs of leaking or movement after a few thousand km's.

Here is what it looks like:
