Removing stock battery

I've seen a lot of Cafe projects out there where the stock battery has been removed or relocated. I have a stock '72 CL350 that I'd like to Cafe' Up.
I've seen people use a set of small batteries that they can mount under the seat. Does this require rewiring the whole bike.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this topic or any links to good tutorials on the subject.

Thanks

Peace

I recently spoke to an experienced mechanic and he told me the 350s can run on a smaller battery with 4 amps capacity. But that means you won't be able to use the electrice starter, there's not enough cranking power to turn it. If you relocate it you may need longer or shorter cables. You'll also need to relocate the rectifier and regulator since they are mounted on the battery box. Here's a suggestion:

the battery you gave me a link to looks similar in size to the stock battery. Even if it's a bit smaller, where could I relocate it to? I've seen some flat batteries, are those like a very custom project or are they fairly straight forward in terms of setup.

I'm semi novice, so I'm looking for something that doesn't take too much modification.

Thanks for the info DrJ

Actually this is the stock CL350 battery:

The battery in my previous post is almost half the weight and considerably smaller. It's also sealed so you can mount it on an angle. Yes there are smaller batteries that racers use but there's not enough amperage to power the headlight and signals when you're stopped at night. Racers don't need lights. There is a limit on how small you can go with a battery. I've seen it mounted on top of the swingarm between the rear tire and crankcase or underneath but you need to ditch the toolbox. Side mounted on the right is another place.

You can also wire multiple small batteries together to increase the amperage. Thats what I'm doing, though they are not yet wired in this pic. I think I'm going to ge one more...
