what you are shooting for is the same and correct fuel level in the bowl with the new float. you also need to make sure there is no clearance problems and that the stop works so if the bowl is emptied the needle does not extend far enough that it sticks.... set the float level correctly in a carburetor with the stock float and then check the level and then set the new one to that same level....if you need more detail ask.
