Replacement Fuel Tank Lid

Hi Guys,

I have a 1974 Suzuki GT250 and the fuel tank lid will not close. The locking mechanism seems to be broken and the only replacement lids I have been able to find have been $100+ for example this one

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Locking-Fuel-Gas-Tank-Cap-GT380-GT500-GT550-GT750-GT250-OEM-Suzuki-Part-H81-/360431889869?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53eb6a2dcd

Does anyone have any cheaper suggestions for a replacement as I can't purchase the locking mechanism separately?

thanks in advance

Haven't really looked at one of those for over 25yrs, when the lock fails there isn't much you can do but get a new cap.
I don't remember lock being available as a separate component?
There may have been a reason Suzuki stopped using them?

Yeah unfortunately the cap I have is in perfect condition aside from the locking mechanism which is a real pain in the @ss.

Ya, ive got two of these tanks and they both have the same problem. My only easy solution was to totally take the cap off and stick a plumbing plug in the damn thing. Doesnt look great and is kind of a pain in the ass, but it keeps the gas in and the dirt out.

You can kind of see what i did in this picture. I want to eventually figure something else out, but it works for now.... :-\
