Respraying controls and other alloy parts.

I want to use VHT wheel paint for a quick respray job on some alloy parts.

Other than degreasing and keying the parts do you guys think I should prime it also?

Seems plenty of people use the VHT wheel paint direct without issue.

I've usually find the manufacture knows a hell of a lot more about their product than me. What does their instructions say? If not on the can, try their web site.

Yep, I have done the duplicolor paint over previously painted alloy and it was great, on bare alloy etching primer was much better then regular primer.

Nope. If you use that you need to heat cure it

Ok well I have a tin of Hammerite etch primer called "hammerite special metals primer" , I'm just concerned it won't be compatible with the VHT paint..

All the VHT stuff needs to be heat cured or it takes forever to set up. You can leave it in your car for a day or two under sunlight

I'm not sure this is correct. There are VHT primers for non heat application. SP304 is an etch primer.

Should I be ok with the Hammerite etch primer?

I mean your VHT topcoat.

Not sure on the hammerite

Ah the top coat is no problem it will harden over a long period, especially since I'm using the wheelpaint version. It is very hard after 2 weeks even when not cured

It's the primer I'm trying to get around, VHT wrote to me and told me their prime coat is an etch primer, but there is so little information on what exactly their primers are.

I bought engine primer, not sure if it is an etch primer.
