retro fit modern master cylinder

I know there have been questions regarding MCs already but need something more specific.
My bike is a 75 Honda cb360t. my current master cylinder looks like its been at the bottom of the lake for a very long time. very rusted.

So i want to upgrade my MC and my clutch lever perch to something more modern so i have a wider choice for levers. Some of the reason is aesthetics to go with what I am trying to achieve with my build and others just to have a wider list of available options.

Anyone know of a list of new bikes that have the appropriate size (14mm i think) piston?
Also, what is the harm is steppign up to like a 19mm MC? That seems to be a more commin size on newer bikes.

I see that DCC sells a Nissin upgrade but i cant seem to find a matching clutch perch and i want to be sure when time comes to order upgraded levers that i have something common to order the correct levers against. Much easier to tell the shop i need levers for bike X as opposed to well my MC is a universal Nissin and my clutch perch is from motor cycle X.

Thanks for the help.

I have fitted a brembo master cylinder/reservoir/lever and clutch lever/etc from a 2002 Yamaha R6. Popular bike, easy to get levers for and with the braided hoses made a good, simple upgrade.

If you step up in m/c piston diameter, the lever pull is harder. I went from 5/8 original to 3/4 and I actually like it much better, but it is a lot easier to lock up the brake now, so there are safety concerns. I suppose the easiest answer is, don't stray too far from original, but a small difference shouldn't make or break.

good to know. i think i would prefer a snappy brake responce from my riding history. i have never ridden or owned a bike this old. looking forward to getting it road worthy and ridding it. i should start a build thread.

Sportsbike MCs (R1/6, ZX6/9, etc) have a remote reservior....which can be a pain to mount / locate.

Have a look for something with a built in reservior - like Suzuki Bandit or SV650 (naked version).

Also, don't expect to be suddenly doing stoppies if you are still running the original CB caliper and disc.

yeah i knew about the reservoir. i'll come up with something. and noooo. i have no plans for stoppies or any other stunts for that matter. i just want to be sure i have good brake feel. So it looks like the 2002 R6 uses a 16mm bore MC. Also, appears that the CBR F4 does too. Not sure of the year yet but i will keep looking.

i'll be sure to keep a running list as i find them. and which ever one i go with, i will post back up the results. assuming it doesnt kill me. ::)

Thanks again everyone.

I have duel disks, goodridge braided hoses, EBC pads and shorty brake levers on my GS hooked up the R6 master cylinder and it does pull up well, but not so I'd be worried about losing the front or doing a stoppie. It just works well, more like a modern bike than a 35 year old bike would on original brakes. Quite reassuring really. :D

Wow. You have a much better set up than I will have on my cb. I'll just have the single disk. Guess we'll see if I end up like superman over the bars or not ???
