ReWiring is a Bastard... How much to take it to a pro?

Between work and a newborn the bike is just sitting and I cant stand it. How much should I expect to pay for someone to wire it for me? I want the most basic of wiring systems. As bare bones as it can be. Its a 79GL1000. Only thing keeping it off the road is a the wiring.

Wiring isn't really as bad as it seems, it's simple really once you get a little familiar. You might check out this diagram:

Hey thanks! I know its not that bad, I just dont have the time in a day to get out there between the newborn and being a chef. This is an awesome diagram though. One that I hadnt found before in my searches. I like that it is color coded and specific to Honda. I will see if my wife can take a day off next week so that I can try and get this done. Thanks!

That's the beauty of it... forget that is says Honda... They're all basically the same as far as the routing. If you stick with your engine's armature, regulator, rectifier, and coils pretty much everything else is 12v generic. For instance I bought a $9 12v generic riding lawnmower starter solenoid on ebay and it worked perfectly with my 400f instead of the $60 factory style solenoid. Ignition switch? who cares... 12v generic. Headlight, tail light, turn signals, horn? who cares, generic 12v again.

We do a 'stripped down loom' diagram for the Sr500 free to down load from our website:

We don't have enough hours in the day to talk you through it but if you are compitant with wiring its easy to follow.

As to taking it to a pro....we wired several bikes last year, the cheapest was about £300 (very very basic loom), the most expensive well over £1,000. Its all down to time and what you want in the system - building a wiring loom is very labour intensive, even that Honda one would take several days to make a good job of it (and without an earth circuit IE using the frame as earth its not a good job). The average cost has to be £500-600.

The materials required don't cost much compared to the labour, however if you have to buy everything from scratch it will cost you a tidy packet. Most things come in packs or reels and although you might only need one of something you often end up with a pack of ten or 50 meters.

To that end we have wire by the meter and connectors sold singularly on our website
