Hey, im pretty new to the site and am currently putting together a rickman cr750. Purely out of interest i would love all the information i can possible get on these bikes. Ive read just about everything i can find on the net and theres surprisingly little info around (apart from stuff about the frames)

It would be much appreciated if everyone threw what they think/know about the Rickmans.

Photos and everything would be great too. Pretty much, everything about rickmans (maybe not the dirtbikes) i would love to see.

Heres a photo of mine so far and a complete bike.

I'm sure you'll find help here, but I know you'll also want to check out forums.sohc4.net - the definitive source for info and help on the SOHC4 Honda's of all flavors.

Yep, it's me you can see the PJ on front of helmet.
It was between 1980¬81, forget when exactly.
It got sold to a friend, think he still has it but its been stripped down since about 1989~90
Only picture have of it.
Particularly remember it because fairing was off so I could clean motor
Just came back from a 130mph 'test ride' hence the big grin
It had some obscure Italian cast wheels.
Rear had a big cush drive, couldn't fit higher gearing so it only did 136mph at redline.
About the only advice I can give is make sure you use the correct adjustment washers and make sure they are 'right way up'
When you do chain adjustment (for those who don't know, you move swing arm backwards at pivot to adjust chain, has eccentric washers)

Do you have copies of Mick Walker's books on custom bikes from the seventies. Can't remember the correct title. There's also the British Aftermarket Frame Makers ( or something like that) which has a chapter on the Rickman brothers.

My dad had it sitting in his shed getting dusty. told me if i wanted to put in the effort and get all the missing pieces (engine was the big thing) than it was mine.

Something that has kind of stumped me is how to adjust the chain, im not that far into the project but really, i cant figure it out?

Would it be worthwhile starting a build thread just to show everything thats been done?

Yes. Always! ;D

Chain adjustment is done with changing out the "cams" that fit on the back. The bike originally came with a set of cams (round discs) to permit adjustment for different chain lengths. I may have a pic of a set that I sold on ebay a couple of years back.

im very jealous of you both...

its an eccentric washer... i see those systems a lot lately on bicycles at work. they are tricky to figure out sometimes, but work really well once you get used to them.

rickman... that bike is TOTAL junk and you wont find ANY parts... ill go take it off your hands right now if you want to save yourself the trouble ;)
