I was having trouble with blowing fuses after changing out my stock handlebars on my '71 CL450. I Replaced the left control perch and flasher relay, as it blew every times I turned on my left blinker. That seemed to fix the problem.
I decided to upgrade my charging system and get a new battery. I installed Rick's rec/reg. I went on a 40 miles ride with no issue. I got home, hit the kill switch, and let the bike sit for a minute. When I turned it off, I noted that the neutral light was still on. I get back to the bike a minute later and it off. I lift the seat and find the glass tube fuse is blown again, but the fuse in the new rec/reg is not.
Ive checked the battery and it's around 13 volts off. Revved up it charges but I didn't see and spikes.
I took out the glass fuse and simply connected the ends. I took it out for another 50 miles ride or so with no issues.
My main question is, does the fuse in the new rec/reg replace the function of the original glass tube? Or do I need them both? Also, any insight into the weird blown fuse situation would be great. Thank you.
