I make things.
hey guys, if anyone wants to pitch in, that would be awesome, this dude bought one of my seats, made a mold, and is now selling knockoffs. that's something I don't do because I'm a professional craftsman, if I wanted to, I could buy tons of different seats and just copy them and resell knockoffs, but I leave that up to clowns like this. It would be cool if he got a tonload of comments and/or reports against his practices, it's jackasses like this that keep people like me from coming up with new designs lest they just get copied and knocked off with cheaper and crummier methods and materials!

yep... that's what I get for having principles, I get requests to make copies of benji's stuff, carpy's stuff, I always decline, that's their design and hard work, it's only fair that they are allowed to make a living from that hard work. If I had no morals, I'd just go through airtech's catalog, order pieces, make molds, and rip them off, would probably have 5 guys working in the shop doing nothing but fiberglass, but I don't... it's people like this that really crap on the hobby, can't even do their own work. I'd think this guy was cool as shit if he just designed his own seat, made a mold and sold the hell out of it, that's called competition and I think it's awesome... this dude is just a soulless hack. ugh -my rant

if anyone wants to help out, esp. people who have bought stuff from me and appreciate the quality and value I offer, it would be cool if you visit the listing and report it

Thats some bullshit for sure.
Ill report it.

EDIT: Reported

Have you tried emailing the guy and asking him to stop? I'm sure you have some sort of intellectual property claim to the design.

Btw - is this something that eBay would care about? There is tons of knock off crap on there(most from Asia). This would have to be a civil suit against this guy.

Nothing wrong with a gel coat (just my opinion), but a chop gun is definitely the "cheap and easy" way. Not near as strong as hand laid stuff.

yeah, emailed him and told him my next email is to "my" lawyer, I say "my" because I'm a small bus, not like I have a lawyer on retainer, but have a dude who knows his stuff when it comes to business law and helped me grow things properly. he claimed his friend built the plug with plaster of paris and cardboard... I told him I'd gladly buy one and do a test fit in my mold, wouldn't it be funny if his friend somehow accidentally came up with the exact same shape as me?? would be quite funny to me....

Ya, I'd reach out to him on the SOHC-4 Forums. He's got them posted there for sale as well.

It's a tough call, the dude did make them himself, with his own hands. A knock off is a knock off, and competition is competition. I'm not sure there is much to report if you don't have a trademark or patent. I'd start with a friendly request to stop using your original ideas/designs, and go from there.

he made them himself, which is fine by me, making a fiberglass part in a mold takes an hour or two, less materials and shop cost, and it's enough to make a living, I'm cool with that. what the problem is, is that to make the model to make the mold from takes days or weeks, especially if you're picky and want it to be really nice. Making the mold only takes a day tops, so basically this dude is letting me do the hard work and then reaping the benefits, it's basically like an inventor who spends years working on some cool thing, working for peanuts or spending his own savings, only to have china rip it off and start selling them, so for all his hard work and spent savings, he winds up broke.

I agree with the above.
That is not the way you operate a business.

Reported for what it's worth. Not much confidence they will yank the listing unless your designs are protected somehow.

And now you have to choose to either invest time and money in a NEW product to make up the lost income, or lower your standards / pricing to compete with knockoffs... pretty lame.

Yeah I hear you there. There's almost no work in making a seat from a mold. Building the plug is the massively time-consuming part.

What a piece of work...reported.

Which one is it a copy of? The roadster?

He's trying to sell them on hondatwins.net too. I'm going to call him out on it.

Looks like a Fire Wardens' convention.....
