ripoff artist

What sucks is the world is filled with cheapskates (many of them are members here on DTT) who don't give a fuck. Many folks will buy solely on price alone and many sellers will sell crap to accommodate the market for cheap shit. Just like crack abuse, the problem is both supply and demand. And when called out both buyers and sellers list a million lame reasons justifying it.

In every hobby where there are craftsmen with talent you have scum bag rip off artists stealing money from them. It's a race to bottom. The best you can hope for is to convince enough folks that your company and your products and your services are worth the asking price and indeed represent the best value overall. I know that it's in my best interests to buy stuff from you so that 2 years from now if I need another tank or seat or whatever you'll still be in business and be able to hook me up.

Hey, Roc, I just had a thought.
I'm making a plug for tracker and thought, yep, this sucks, only another week or so before I make a mold and it hit me.
Why don't you get him to send you a sample, if it's any good, licence your design to him and let him have all the glass seats of that design?

freedomgli. hit the nail on the head, too many people don't give a shit as long as it's cheap. We had a similar problem with our tipI campsite, someone set up a similar business, which is fair enough, but they tried using the same name as us and virtually cut and pasted our website, luckily the missus is an ex lawyer and she scared them with all sorts of legal jargon until they backed down, in reality there was little we could do, the cost and time in proving intellectual property rights would have been the end of us, there is too much of a grey area surrounding business done on the web.
Would having an embossed logo be possible? and would it make it harder to copy? because if your company logo is on the seats it would be easier to prove theft.

Yep.. not cool. At all. My brother makes handmade straight razors. All his original designs. He recently had a Chinese knockoff outfit copy one of his razors, including the presentation case that it comes in. Sucks.

Changing my stance on this one. Pretty disgusted by Roccity's behavior on various other forums.

Serves you right, Sean. Suck shit.

What reason do you have to be disgusted? Is roccity stealing money from your pocket? Or are you disgruntled because of the way he's calling out the copycat?

Neither. Go dig around on caferacer.net and see what he thinks about the people buying his parts, particularly from this site. You also missed a thread on sohc4.net (now deleted) where a bunch of emails between him and white orbs were posted.

I don't think what white orbs did was right (if roc's claim is legit), but fuck him. He's an arrogant piece of work.

Edit: I see you edited your post since I responded. To answer your unedited statement, I'm no friend of white orbs.

How about you post direct links instead of making vague accusations and telling me to look for myself? I spend a bit of time on both caferacer.net and sohc4 yet I haven't read anything about roccity that makes me think he deserves to have someone rip off his hard work. I've been in Sean's position before and I've spent long hours in the shop doing composites and other fab work. It ain't easy and it sucks when some joker comes along and screws you over.

Have you read this whole thread? I too have made composite molds. Sean even admits his work consists of ripping off period pieces.

Go do the fucking legwork yourself. I don't give two shits about your opinion on my statement.

Well fuck you then. I don't see any reason why you should be smack talking Sean. And until you show me why you're right and he's wrong, I'll continue to support roccity.

I gotta say that was the first thing I thought when I first saw this thread. I couldn't really understand how someone could be pissed off about someone ripping off something that was already copied.

Thanks, I'm here all day.

Lazy fuck.

It's the difference of being inspired by period pieces and taking a mold of someone else's work. I'm guessing a lot more artistic skill and design goes into crafting a Rocity seat than making a copy of one. IMO, that's what makes it wrong.

Though I do think the seat is too easy to copy and offers little advantage over buying a copy. Embossed logo probably wouldn't help. Maybe an integrated tail light or proprietary hardware.

Actually, the logo might help now that I think about it. If you make a good name for yourself, it will command the dollars. It's the difference between Nike and Payless, and the reason we flamed the kids in grade school for buying Payless.

I'd still rock some British Knights with Zubaz pants if it were in style :)
