Run off Road

Don't post much as if I'm not working I'm mostly doing family stuff or riding. Got my Thruxton 3 years ago for my Birthday. He is a 05 and it had 4800 miles on it.

Since then I did the normal mods and started to individualize him to me. Was well on the way to getting the outward appearance how I wanted it (was going to leave the performance engine mods till engine rebuild.

Just hit 45000 miles on him last month. On my way to work last Tuesday a ****** ******** ******* decided they didn't want to slow down to go around a turning box truck and swerved into my lane. I left the road at about 40MPH, hit curb and went airborne. I got launched about 15 or 20 yards, landing on my shoulders (tuck and rolled) and came to rest in a sitting position. Bike cartwheeled a few times, bouncing off the ground three times, before coming to rest about 10 feet behind me.

The only saving grace for myself and the bike was that the impacts occured in the medium btwn the north and south bound lanes (I was heading south). Being a beautiful Florida Morning the grass was wet and the ground was sand.

I ended up with minor scrapes on my hands, a bruised kidney and a fracture of the Transverse Process on my L2 vertebrae. Bike faired about as well. Most of the damage was to the front and back ends where the bike impacted as it flipped. Believe it or not there was no damage to the tank or side covers.

The stupid Adjuster, who doesn't know crap about bikes, wanted to total it. I had to go over his head but it looks as though they are going to cover repair.

It looks as though I'm going to be laid up for a few months while my back heals. This will give me time to get the bike repaired and do a few more things to it before both of us can get back in the wind. So, in the long run, my bike will be further along being individualized.

Glad to hear you're going to recover. How straight is the frame?

Time for a lawyer, hope the guy who ran you off the road was witnessed and maybe someone got a tag number?

Is FLA still a no-fault state?

Glad you are more or less whole after that bit of fun!

Best of luck with the rehabilitation of both ride and rider...

That's crap. Hope you come out ok.

When you get back on it remember to always give yourself an exit. I've been forced out of my lane a few times but if you always have a place in mind for escape you can avoid this stuff more often.

Frame is straight. Only thing that got bent was the back of the seat rails.

SOBSUV slowed down to see what all the commotion was then sped back up and took off.

I took the only exit I had, which was the turning lane. Just ran out of road. Been riding for almost 30 years... first really bad wreck (which wasn't really that bad if you look at it)

Glad your okay, try to think of this as an opportunity for some serious moto personalization. Have fun with it.

Talked to the Adjuster today. He is cutting a check to me and the mechanic. Getting with the mechanic to see what parts we need to get on order and from whom. Already got a bunch in my "wish list" at DCC... hopefully I'll be able to add a few more with the difference btwn OEM priced parts (as shown on the estimate) and better, improved aftermarket parts.

Well, got the check from the Insurance Adjuster to repair the damage on the bike. Will be dropping that off to my mechanic. Going to have him start the repairs to get the bike road worthy. Also going to ask him while the bike is apart if I can do some mods/fixes on my own. Nothing major. Want to clean up the fork leg casting seams while he has the forks apart and re-brush the entire legs. Also when the rear end is apart want to take out the resonator plate in the air box to get better air flow.

After that (new mufflers (Lossa Stubby Cans) & Header Crossover Pipe removal) have him re-jet and balance the carbs.

Once bike is good to go for the road any $ left over may be used for a Airtech Ducati 900SS cafe half fairing (DUC91)

Adjuster is also sending out a check for a replacement Helmet. Going with a Bell Custom 500. Going with a Matte Black and will have the following graphic (keeping "aged" look) painted on each side.

Last will be re-paint. Sticking with the same color (Krylon Textured Shimmer Black) but will be redoing the tank/rear cowl (and possibly the Half Fairing). Going to go Badgeless on the tank and do away with the checkered stripe down the middle. Will be putting on a off center (left side) Satin Black stripe (2.5" or so) with a Satin Black Pin Stripe to the left of that.

At least that is the plan.

decided not to go with a Half Fairing. Putting the $$ into other upgrades.

Following parts on order....

From Dime City Cycle
Progressive Vintage “412 Series” Gas Charged Shocks
Progressive Front Springs
Universal GP Style Aluminum Foot Pegs (2 sets)
Discrete British Customs Brake Reservoir
7 Way Adjustable Steering Damper
Slim Clear LED Cats Eye Taillight
Bell Custom 500 Matte Black Helmet and Visor

From British Customs
Billet Headlight Ears (Black, pair)
Ignition Key Relocation Bracket (Black)

From Lossa Engineering
Reverse Cone Muffler2 (mini - 12")

From Triumph
Thruxton Seat
Seat Cowl
Headlight Bucket
Headlight Ring

Extra set of headers dropped off at mechanic to remove cross over pipe, cut down & re-bend to mount Lossa RC Mufflers TT Style.

When the parts come in and he starts tearing apart the bike he'll be checking the front end components to see what (if any) are needed. I'll also head up there to take out the Resonator Plate from the air box and getting the Skins to repaint. Going Badgeless with the tank. Color will be the same but with an off center (left) matte black stripe (and "pin stripe" next to the wide one). Thinking of doing a Diagonal Stripe across the side covers also.

I can't wait to get him back and I heal enough to ride again!!!!
