Run or Replace? CB350 rockers...

overdraft

Coast to Coast
Got the engine apart and the cam in for a grind, but I notice that I have some pitting on my rockers... Do you think it would be OK to run them? And if not, what do I do about it? My cam guy says that the hardened part is probably too thin to grind and in any event he doesn't have a jig for them... Just buy some more used ones and hope I can get 4 decent ones? Or is the pitting not a big deal and just run them...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts...

"I got the cam in for a grind" be very carefull with that! If your cam is ground down below the stock base circle,,,you will not have enough adjustment with your eccrentric rocker shafts to get proper valve to rocker clearance. This happened to a friend on one of his builds,,,,the valves were sent to the local welding guru and the stems had to be built up with hardfacing.Your rockers seem to exhibit normal wear, megacycle can hardface and regrind your rocker arms....$$$$$$$,,,,,,,,,,,,good luck with your build WT

someone should offer rocker arm hardfacing, if you're getting the cam ground and hardwelded like a proper regrind would entail, then it will help a lot to have the faces of the rockers the same hardness... try bore-tech, they do a lot of 350 racing stuff

Either replace or have them hard faced and ground to a different radius (larger radius can be better)
I wouldn't use the pitted ones with a stock cam, you asking for trouble with a re-grind

thanks for the input guys.... well i think i probably screwed up because the place i sent the cam is going to have reduced the diameter on the backside so i guess i'll be chucking that out... so i guess i need to find somewhere that can build up cams and rockers (and find a new cam). seems like the smart move would have just been to leave it alone. who knew that this was like the one part of the bike that was totally non-replaceable and non-serviceable without access to some hyper exclusive shop!

Should have called and left a message, just in case they haven't started yet.
How much were you having it ground?
May get away with having rockers built up thicker than normal to compensate?

webcams and megacycle should both do hardweld and regrind above the stock profile, what shop are you sending it to?
