Satin Black paint? Good brands?

edelweiss

Coast to Coast
Hi,
I was originally going to paint my CB500 front fender with a Duplicolor Flat black and realized that will be difficult to clean and will show grease and finger prints like crazy. So I assumed Duplicolor would have a Satin Black, but they have "semi-gloss" black. Is a "semi-gloss" the same as a satin black?

Also, are there other rattle can enamels that are just as good (or better) than Duplicolor, BUT easier to find? Pep Boys is always out of Black paints (went to 4 stores). At this point I am willing to order 4-5 cans online.

Thanks for any help!!!

Best,
John

As far as spray bombs, I like the Krylon best. It dries evenly, and has a true satin finish. Do NOT use Rustoleum spray paint as it never dries evenly, and takes forever to dry. Surface prep is the key to success!

Looks like Walmart sell Krylon satin black. See picture below. Is this the right stuff?

Thanks!

John

edelweiss beat me to it but I use this on plastic parts when I need to match the satin black powder coat I use. It's a dead nuts match to it and lasts. It's on the center caps of my truck wheels for over a year now and still looks the same as when I shot it.

I'm hoping this paint will work fine on bare metal or over scuffed chrome (with several coats of primer of course).

Vht epoxy roll bar satin paint has a perfect finish. Less gloss more flat, no primer needed.

Chassis paint, Advanced Auto Parts. About $9/can. You can shoot it with a pellet gun and it won't chip, takes awhile to fully cure though.

I'm partial to Rustoleum, but did my bike this last go round with Krylon. They discontinued the light cream color I was using though. Any touch ups will be a lighter shade of Rustoleum, which may look better anyway. The Krylon is almost almost almond appliance epoxy colored, the Rustoleum the same cream as Huffy Cranbrook bicycle fenders or Panama Jack bicycle parts.

Like so... with Duplicolor semi-gloss black brake drums, chassis and engine...

Take your time, good prep work goes a long way. I consider mine tolerable for a rider grade, pathetic if it was to be an art bike.

rustoleum painters touch. works awesome!!! then use the satin clear over the top. here is a bike i painted with it last year

I just sprayed my frame satin black and it came out as hoped, with no tremendous talent on my part. I can't vouch for longevity, but I detail my reasons for choosing Rust-Oleum here:

+1 on the VHT Satin black. It's as durable as hell. Still not one scratch from my brake lever since the beginning of the summer. SprayMax for primer and clear. :D
