Savage Love!- aka Suzuki savage tracker

First post here......figured I'd start out with my current build.
87 suzuki savage 650 that I got as a non-running lump o'shit.
If you're familiar with Ryca, you can tell the idea itself isn't my own.....however,
I will be taking it waaaay further.

Here's where I started.
This is what it looked like when I went to pick it up!

Get it home, of course tear it apart.....stare, search, measure.....
Gonna need to modify swing arm loop to fit 18" wheels/tires.

eBay is my friend. Search, measure...."buy it now!", & Brown (UPS) brings me
some very DT looking KZ wheels.
(& a seat loop)

Cut out some side covers, made mea cardboard seat....got some bars, tires....all I need now is a big hill & some motorcycle sounds!

Made some foot peg brackets out of stainless & polished the fuck out if them.
Put some pegs & shift lever on the side plates.

(With exhaust bracket tab)

Where the electronics will reside. Not sure why, but I made the whole loop removable.

Polished aluminum plate for electrics access without full seat loop removal.

Seat pan

Snagged a crashed later model 5 speed bike, and pulled out the lower mileage, significantly more aesthetically pleasing engine, and installed it.

Waiting on my front wheel from my buddy that is plant manager for a powder coating company. Weld shut that ugly gauge hole.....paint, seat, put in harness, front brakes, exhaust......details, details.

I wanted to have it done by 4th of July weekend, but a lot of other people have held up my progress. My afore mentioned wheel..... waiting for parts....add a couple family/vehicle emergencies robbing my build funds......

Now I'm shooting for the end of August. We'll see if I can stave off any future emergencies!

Hope you dig it.

Nice job ................ I think there's a Savage somewhere in my future - time allowing !

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

Nice start to a cool project.

I think you should sell the standard tank though.

The amount of work you are putting into this will be wasted with that big blob standing prouder than a honeymooner's cock.

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

Trust me, I've considered it......problem being that the Savage might be one of the most pain in the ass bikes to mount a different tank on, with its obnoxious frame.

I'll continue forward with this, & if it ends up looking like a big zit, I'll find something different.

After all.....these "project" bikes are never really done! ;D

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

You'll be noticing the crappy handling of the firestones even more like that ;)

Bike has come a long way, nice work!

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

Looking pretty sweet! I agree though, different tank would really top it off in the end. And with what I've gathered from this thread, you've got the skills to make it happen even on an inconvenient frame. I'm excited to see where this goes!

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

HA I looked at that picture and said to myself, "self, he's got to be in SC."

Looks exactly like my old yard with the pine trees and pine needle "mulch"

Bike is looking good, where in SC are you?

They are a significant improvement over the stock tires. Scary bad handling with the IRC units they ship with from the factory (tires that are garbage by 5500 miles).

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

Looks great although if it was mine I think I would lose the little fender underneath the rear frame hoop. I still think it looks great and I think you did a great job on the frame!

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

I lived in Cola for 4 years,
Just moved away about a year ago.
I miss it.

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

I love this bike. I have been looking for inspiration. I like the Ryca, but think it looks a little to dainty for me.
Are you planning on making a more detailed description of you project?

I came across this site by Googling "Savage tracker". Been mostly at SuzukiSavage.com. Cant wait to see the finished project.

Re: Suzuki savage tracker

Do you have a link to that seat hoop and wheels?

Also, I was going to ditch the stock tank, but it looks good on your bike. I have an old rd400 Yamaha tank from an old bike i was going to try to adapt, but I think i will stick with stock for now.
