Savage Project: Steel Clover (I'm Back!!!!)

Whoa....where did this build come from? I almost bought a Savage the other day Awesome Bike Man, Makes my Fish look elementary...... I can't wait to see the paint you have planned for it!

P.S. please do a write up in the BRANDY NEW Paint & body work section when you do this Epic paint job

Great work and a great inspiration. I've been wanting to do a big thumper for a long time. Old Yamaha XT500 and Honda XL's are very pricey for their age. The Savage about the same cost for a much more modern bike. An 18' rear wheel will literllay transform the style you have going on.

I've followed the RYCA reserection - a good source for some parts that you know will fit. http://www.rycamotors.com/

But for me I need to be like you a little more individualistic..

Hooking up an LED is pretty easy and putting it in resin doesn't sound too hard. I messed around with LEDs some and may be able give you a few tips.

A problem with casing LEDs in resin maybe, as the resin expands and contracts the connections to the LEDs may crack. Keeping the connections out of the resin and just having the epoxy part of the LED in the resin may make the light more reliable.

Thanks gentlemanjim! I Have to agree with you about the 18" wheel. I have fount the rim I want, I just need to source the stainless spokes. I'm cheap, otherwise I would just buy it from Ryca.

That is what I was thinking too. I also want to tint the resin too. I think the best way to do it may be to make a base plate with all the LED's mounted on it and then place it in into the resin as its curing being careful not to submerge more than just the epoxy portion of the LED's. As soon as I get my garage together, I will start tinkering on this again. In the meantime, I took a couple photos of the bike as it sits over in my parents garage. I did make a little progress on it that I never posted on here, so here ya go!

These pics aren't great...they were taken in a dark garage with a cell phone

I worked the side panels into the back. I thought bringing it to a point would mimic the point on the tail piece as well. the side panels still will need some finish work for a cleaner fit and finish, but the overall shape is pretty good.

how it all ties together inside...I need to remake the little tray in the front. I will also be using stainless allen bolts for the final product, these bolts are just for the mock-up.
