So I'm out at my brother's house working on the track bike when his phone rings. We get in the car with the trailer still attached and go down to see this bike. A 1979 Yamaha XS 650 Special. We get the guy down to $250 and take it away.

I love barns because they make a bike dirty, but no sunlight to fade paint or crack tires etc. A little steel wool and all the chrome is shining again! We have good compression, the brakes work but will be rebuilt, and when it was parked in the barn (IN 1994!!) it was running and had brand new tires, coils etc. It's gonna need fork seals (previous owner said he could wheelie it in 3rd gear) and a little TLC.

This would make a great cafe racer or flat tracker. All papers and history came with it. It's a 79 so it's 30 years old this year, making it a vintage/classic.

My question is this: What's a bike like this worth (37000km) in great shape, certified?

I was thinking about $1800,but only if it's really shiny!

I want to sell this bike to pay for my bike trip in August.
suggestions? offers? lol

In Ottawa ON.

$250.00 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Its worth what people will pay. Perhaps put a listing on eBay with good photos and honest description and see what people get up to. If you want to keep it then put a disclaimer in there saying that its for sale elsewhere so you've got the right to pull it anytime. Pull it with a day or so to go, add a hundred or two to the price it was going for and thats pretty much it.

Good fine, but why sell it? - boingk

I cafe'd a 1982 GS 400 and I'm taking a trip with my brothers on their bikes in Aug ( 1976 XS360, 1988 Nighthawk 650, 2007 DL 650) My two brothers on the bigger bikes are both fat so I figure me and my pint sized bro on the 360 should be able to keep up. I'm selling the XS to pay for the trip, insurance etc.

In other news, you gotta love old bikes. This bike was in a barn since september 1994. We drained the carbs and gave her fresh fuel, cleaned out the mouse house in the air box.... and it started. ON THE SECOND KICK!!!!

All I"m waiting for now is for the fork seals, grips, levers and handlebars to come in and she's officially on the market!

oh and she thumps big time!!!
