Seat foam

Anybody know where I can get high density foam/race seat foam. I stumbled across a site at one time that had pre-cut bags that were peel and stick, or something similar...thanks for any leads

Wanted to bring this to the top, as I'm curious what kind of foam everyone is using.

I was even toying with the idea of using some stiff foam board insulation as a base with a memory foam type pad on top.
There's a foam and fabric shop in Asheville I've been wanting to check out.

The proper foam is high density waterproof neoprene, but I haven't found a source for it.

I found nice cushy neoprene pads about 1.5 inches thick at Princess Auto - they're for kneeling on when working on things like your bike ;)

They're pretty soft, so not sure how well it would work. Probably pretty comfy. $8 for a pad, which is about 2 square feet of material. Enough for the base of a cafe seat.

There's a foam factory here in Kitchener. They have a little retail store as well where they'll sell you any foam you can dream of in any size you want. I bought foam from there for the 650, 30 Canuck bucks w/taxes for 80lb base foam 4 inches thick 24 x 24, and a piece of 1" thick 18 x 18 memory foam for on top. This is the most comfortable seat I've ever sat on. I'll definitely go there again for the 400 seat.

Thanks, those sites are great! I particularly like the foambymail.com site, in which you can specify your own measurement and be charged accordingly. You could get all the foam you need for less than $10, easy!

Thanks again!

While I'm at it, has anyone had much luck finding or purchasing fabric online? I've looked around, but it's always tough to tell exactly how durable the vinyl is, especially if it wasn't made for motorcycle use.

But I've seen some really cool stuff. I'm definitely getting excited about this seat build (perhaps moreso than getting the bike running). ;D

Well, I went to an upholstery shop that does car interiors and bike seats, just about everything. Got some of the best marine grade vinyl you can get, $30 for the smallest piece I could order in, 36" x 52". I'll definitely go back there for supplies for the next seat. This stuff is amazingly nice to work with and the quality is great as far as I can tell.

Tintin, the place I went was Anne Reed's Custom Upholstery in Stratford, Ontario. Not exactly local for you guys, but I could order stuff for you. I don't remember the brand name of the stuff I got, but I know that some Apple Auto Glass places do upholstery for cars, boats and bikes. The big thing to make sure of is to ask for marine grade vinyl with a high rub rating and UV protection. There's a pretty big selection as far as colours and textures. They're really getting into some fancy designs like ostrich patterns and things like that. I always kind of thumbed my nose to vinyl in favour of leather and suede, but this stuff really impressed me.
