seat for cl350 and introduction

Hey everyone, this is my first post I'm 20 years old from New Hampshire. I've loved everything about the cafe style since I saw my first cafe bike. Here is a seat I started making for my cl350, I made the shape by layering foam board and carving it with a knife then shaping it with a sander. I then layed fiberglass on top of the foam. I plan on using this as the mold and making a new seat off of that. I used a sculpting putty to get the shape to mesh the seat with the tank. When it hardens it turns into a hard plastic. Thanks for checking it out

Ha, thats actually a pretty funny story. Well I sculpted it all outside in my garage
where its cold, then the next day It wasn't dry so I brought it indoors where it was
really warm. The next day I checked on it and it had cracked and started to curl :-\. So
I'm guessing it going from really cold, to really warm was not a good thing. But I'm
planning on doing it over with a product called aves apoxie sculpt that i have worked with
before. Its a two part mix that when it dries hardens to a super hard plastic that can be
sanded and painted. So i'll let you know how that works out!

Hey, welcome to the board. I'm somewhat of a newb myself, especially to bikes. I've also got a CL350 ('68) that I picked up for free. Right now I've got it completely disassembled, and I've got quite a task ahead of me.

I'll be looking to this post and some of the other CL350s for inspiration.

And I too love those knobby tires. I've got a pair myself. 8)

Hey, Thanks a lot.
I just pulled my bike further apart too.. I feel the more work i do the more in pieces the bike becomes.
its a little discouraging, but it had to be done if I want it to for riding season.. and I'm in the same boat
for knowledge of bikes, all I go is the good old clymers manual and the internet. The tires are pretty wild
they were on it when I got the bike, I'm not sure if there gonna stay or go....

Wow, I just got a 71 CL350 also. not free though. Got it for a bit under $500. Not running, unfortunately, but I am working on it. I don't even have the clymers yet, but it's on order. :)
My tank latch is busted, which is a shame, since the tank is in such nice shape. I am going to wire it shut for now, but keep my eyes peeled for a solution.
Every time I pull something apart to adjust or inspect it, I feel like the bike is becoming a bit more "mine".

This is my first bike too, kind of. I had a cb750 before, but sold it before I ever got around to fixing it and riding. This one, I am keeping for sure.

So, I will keep an eye on your build.

Nice! Seat looks great. Be sure to post pics when your done. Pretty interesting about the plastic product you talk about. I've never heard of it, but it sounds like it could be nice to work with.

Thanks!..Heres a link to the website where you can get the apoxie scuplt. It gives you a lot more info on it it. I haven't been able work much on the bike lately do to the shitty weather. but the next couple of days are looking pretty good so hopefully I'll be putting some more photo's up soon. http://www.avesstudio.com/Products/Apoxie_Sculpt/apoxie_sculpt.html

Heh, I actually just found a couple photos of the seat before the sculpting putty
decided it didn't want to hang out with the seat anymore. ENJOY!!
