sebatron's CB125N build - I'm gonna call it "CB229S"

is it ton-capable?

alright wewp!
replaced throttle/switch/brake housing - used a dirt bike (KTM style?) housing, 5$ cheapie. it was black, but it's aluminium so it's been stripped. looks oldschool in a nice way.
had to find a brake perch so again with the dirt parts. wanted to retain my lever though, so had to modify it a little.
the grips are short n stumpy (brembo knockoffs, thanks thailand!) but installed
installed the mirrors too.

clutch cable is a bit makeshift at the moment, but i'll sort that out
lastly, the lacquered tank shat me up the wall. i've hit it with high temp engine clear. it dulled it significantly but i already knew that.
i might layer it up and see if buffing it will help. a drop of petrol hit it in one spot, and it's glossier but left paint, so maybe.
still haven't started on the seat yet obviously ;)
decided that regardless of the idle being shagged (like 3k rpm - see vid below! :)) it's wayy too loud. i might have to get a real muffler. or a stumpy one mounted under the motor. not loving it :(

no photos and im too tired to get any, but here's vid 1 of the bike running (ninja-started it with mum's car battery, muahah)

i've got a walkaround video going up now, i'll post it later.
about the high idle - i've diagnosed it as a much too rich pilot jet. i'll knock it down 2 sizes and see how that goes. the wheels of progress turn slowly.
decheaped the motor somewhat - exposed the fin edges. love it. makes a huge difference. not sure if i want to polish them or leave them as is though.

Looking good man! About the idle - make sure to check the little things too. I know the throttle tubes (whatever they are called) aren't in backwards, the throttle cable isn't too tight, and the idle screws aren't all the way in.

I'm sure that's not the problem, but just want to point them out.

I spent a few hours on the throttle and take a whole lot of pride in that part of the build actually :) good diagnosis, but it's not the issue.

Thanks :)

it was a public holiday (national day off work! woo!) today (anzac day, commemorating our fallen)
normally a good opportunity for some serious work, but sadly i literally didn't do anything on the bike today. didn't change the jet, didn't finish the exhaust, didn't do the rear fender, didn't work on wiring and sure as hell didn't start the seat :(

my SO and I are moving into our own apartment in a few months and we're restoring furniture so the day was spent working on our dinner table - fair enough i reckon :)
i did get an hour or so to clean the snot out of bike number 2 though. bah.
i had a quick look and i think i can mount the second bike's spare brake caliper to this project - fuckin A - the mechanical cable disc can NOT lock the disc. it's paltry.

Looking good man, looking very good! Don't reckon its ton-capable but you'll have a good time riding it for sure. With a few lot of mods like a reasonable cam, shaved head, up-spec carby etc you could probably bust the ton, but your reliability would go out the window...

Anyway, awesome bike, can't wait to see this one hit the road.

i've put up some more pics from around the time the walkaround was shot.

while i was at it, i uploaded photos of the table we're working on

and i took a wet rag to the next project. i've decided on a name too - "facepalm". pre-empting a frustrating build perhaps? :)

Dang, I got the 30 day dead topic warning! :(

Alright it's been a looooong while since I've had a chance to work on the bike.

I finally got the rear fender to stop rubbing the tyre, I pulled all the wiring off because it was terrible and I've picked up some different coloured wires and plugs to do it right my way.
Decided to start tackling the seat, and that's what this update focuses upon.
I'd planned to use sheet steel I had, but I can't use my gasless mig on it without punching holes through. happens too frequently to risk it so I ended up using a 60x60cm piece of aluminium sheet i picked up for this exact purpose a year ago.

I decided I wanted to do a 2-up seat using a skateboard to give me the shape of the rear. i'm sorta going for something in the vein of the ducati monster's 2up seat, and how it has a cowl which fixes over to turn it to a 1-seater. This seat'll be the same, but I'll make the cowl later.
Figuring that, I've got the aluminium "seat" and on top of that is the skateboard "seatpan".

I made a cardboard template of the seat + cowl a few weeks ago. I didn't have a skateboard to cut at the time so I didn't do a terribly precise job, but just wanted to feel it out:

There's still a while to go before this seat's done. Had to work out a few things so I've shared my findings in the $50 mod thread (ghetto sheet bender, skateboard seatpan) ( http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=6496.msg164261#msg164261 )

Obviously I need to make the rear section, smooth everything (anyone know how to make a zero dollar english wheel or smooth metal otherwise? :) ) weld the whole thing up, polish it, and clear it. Not to mention upholstering the seat with leather, then protecting it with scotchgard or the like.

Disclaimer: I know it looks really terrible now. Once I finish the tail section, and it's smoothed and polished, it should be awesome and I'll mount my indicators and taillight straight to it.

Here's the weekend's progress:

Hey Seb, forgive me for missing this thread for so long and possibly missing the big event, but....did you get it fired up?
I've been wondering about picking up a couple chinese engines for another project, but really I'm just curious about this little bike!

haha it's all good mate, no big event missed.
I did fire it up but I'm using a flatslide carb with a trumpet and my pilot was too big so it's hard to start and "idles" high. There's a vid a page or two back :)

Ok it's been an eternity since I updated.
The fiancé and I spent a fortnight in Thailand, bought a house and moved. Fun times, but it's the bikes turn.
Theres a lot I'm not happy with anymore, but getting it running and tuned is still the priority.
Here's a video! Look, no e-start used!

CB229s - long hiatus - float level set

I was wondering what was going on with this bike.....

The motor sounds strong, but is the idle turned way up?

I've only got the float level right at this point, the jets aren't right so the air screw is off and so's the idle. Slow and steady progress.
Throttle on flooded in it this Vid. I leaned out the airscrew later and it revved better but it's definitely a jet or two too rich.

Hey dude hell yeah it's milkman dan. I feel an affinity. My inner right bicep is a pic of him, nametag and all :D I'll get a pic when I get around to it.
