Looks great Ease, nice work. I'd love to pick up a lathe one of these days. I used to use one for wood projects and loved it. Must be awesome with metal.

Yeah, no worries about overheating here in NL, especially not this summer :D

Thanks guys.

Yeah it was pretty cool working with the metal. I didn't think I was gonna be able to get it so smooth (although you can see I was afraid to go any deeper on the front).

any update on your s10? by the way what is that burgundy colored bike?

Not much of an update on the S10...
I lowered it 3 inches all around, gonna drop the back another inch very shortly...
Replaced the front bumper wih a chrome one and a new black lower valence and the rear with a roll pan.

It's in my garage now waiting for a rear end swap and hopefully paint...

Here's a more recent pic:

Suzuki GS 750 or 1000 Katana.....sweet machine

Yup, the purple bike is an 87 "popup" Katana 750.
It is a sweet machine, but alas, I've sold it to a close friend who works at Suzuki.
He's going to try his hand at restoring it to it's original glory.

I used to "play" with one where I used to work and they are awesome machines! I made little things like flash hiders and stuff for my Ruger 10/22 rifle.
You would like it better than wood, because the grain in the metal is much tighter and also won't chip as easy if you take your time and not try to cut too much at once.

I never "free handed" stuff like on a wood lathe as I was too afraid of wrecking a very expensive machine that wasn't mine and the thought of a tool getting caught and injuring me or someone/thing else.

If you practice a lot though you can get pretty good at using the cutter with the X/Y(?) axis knobs(kinda like a 3D etch-a-sketch).

Every time I post in this thread it gives me the 120 days warning. ;D
Guess I should be doing more work on the Bike/Truck.

Here are some updated pics of the S10 from the past 2 weeks or so:

Red Ox Primer again...

Test drive (after the balancing of the driveshaft and replacing CV joints... $$$!!!):
Truck sits WAY too high in the back without the bed... Still too high with it too... Haven't gotten around to lowering the back more. That'll wait until I'm back in NL.

Rest of the cab painted:

This thing is taking forever...

Tonneau cover in the works, and a cheap spray bomb job on the bedliner to cover the white / overspray... I don't want a real tough bedliner b/c I use a truck tent weekly in the summertime, and they apparently can't handle the roughness.

This thing will be rolling up to TO in a few short weeks, unfortunately without a bike in the back this time. :-\

Used this stuff:

Turned out really well! 3 cans + some prep work:

Nice work. I love that Duplicolor bedliner. I used it to repaint a tattered old roof basket for my Jeep and it looks brand new eith a nice subtle texture.

Thanks guys! It's been a long effing time coming getting this truck to where it is now...
I still have some work to do (tailgate, bumper, tonneau/cap - still have to buy one of those) before December 26th when I drive the thing to TO.

...why didnt you paint the bed with it off the truck?

;)

Haha, I did! :D

As seen in this pic:

Seriously though, I had to put the bed on the frame in order to do the bedliner because the stands I had it laid on to paint it weren't sturdy enough to hold my weight / plus moving around - check out how skinny the legs are in the pic above.

They were originally bought for painting the tins on my and a friend's bike (and work great for that purpose).

Had to get into the bed to do the sanding and in order to get a decent spray job on the inside.

wow, this is a long time thread. Earlier you mentioned the name Jim Hinshaw and I jogged my memory to remember such a familiar name. Then you said how he was trying to get a website going, fastfromthepast, and it clicked! Jim helped me back when I was designing my rearsets, he sent me some parts schematics and explained a little on the folding action footpegs. Good guy!

Yeah I've been trying to keep this thread alive rather than start a new one... Been on the site for a loooooooooooong time. Haha.

Jim was great to deal with. Seems like Fast From the Past has taken off since I first bought my Tarozzi's!
