Semi-Universal Rearset Mounting

Hello all,

I specialize in CB400F parts, but due to the difficulty inherent in mounting rearsets to that bike, I ended up with a solution that could be used for a bunch of different bikes. As long as there is a clean mounting face on the swingarm pivot, a frame member nearby to use as a stop, and the bolt head is 22mm or less, then you may be able to use this system.

The parts in the photos are prototype parts, the cup is made from plain steel, and I made the retaining ring and the anti-rotation stop from aluminum. If I go ahead with production parts, the cup and ring will be stainless steel, and the stop would remain aluminum. The photos show a set of TecBIke rearset parts that I used for mockup, but you could probably use pretty much any of the kits that are out there (Tarozzi, DCC, etc)

Price of the cups alone - $100USD for a pair
Cups with stops and flathead mounting bolt- $130USD

Plates - I might do a run of plates for the CB400F, so they would be in the $85 range. Plates for all other makes & models would be custom, and probably run $125 - $150 depending on how big and complex they would be. But, they are pretty easy to make yourself with nothing more exotic than a drill press, hacksaw, and some files.

The stainless cups are too much work for me to do myself on my small equipment, so I have gone out to local CNC shops for quotes. To get even a semi decent price I need to order a minimum of 20 pcs, (10 sets) so I need at least 6 interested parties to go ahead and order. It's a pretty big cash outlay, and I don't want to tie up that kind of money if it's going to take 2 years to get it back.

If anyone is interested they can let me know here, or contact me direct at rdenoon@mts.net

Thanks

These look different (and cooler) than the ones you had prior. I'm in for at least one set. Also looking for aftermarket upper and lower triple trees. TTR400 Kevin is on vacation for a while so that option seems gone

These look really nice, i like the simple mounting and the fact that the position is not too extreme (im 6 foot tall riding a 400 4). Im interested but need to crunch some numbers to work out if i can afford the total cost, I will let you know by the end of the week wether to put my name down for a set.

Quick question, how much would you expect shipping to europe (france) to be?

Thanks

This design makes for a pretty clean mounting. It's too bad I just can't get a better price on the machining without ordering a crazy amount of pieces.

I could quote you on some trees, but I am really too busy right now to take on the work. If you still haven't found anything in a few weeks, give me shout.

I had a look on the Canada Post site www.canadapost.ca and pricing for a 20cm x 15cm x 10cm, 1.5KG box ranges from $20 - $45 - $70 - $100 depending on what service is used. I don't know that I would trust anything without tracking, so I'd budget for the $45 option.

A Canadian making universal rearsets ... This is absolutely awesome news. From looking at the frame you are using they may work on my KZ400 as well.

Going to bookmark this to follow.

As long as there is some clear area around the pivot, and some place to put a stop, the system should be pretty flexible to design a system around. I placed the stop in the Vee of the frame on the 400F, but it could go in front of the front tube and above the pivot, or behind the rear tube below the pivot. As long as it stops the plate from rotating rearward and down.

Great thanks for the info. Just to check..... Are your prices in USD or Canadian dollars?

Thanks

Cool brackets. I'm in for a cb500 four if those fits.

Hi,

I don't have access to a CB500 to check fitment. The best I could do is provide a drawing of the cups. You could trace it out onto some wood or plastic to make some test pieces.

Let me know if that helps

I know most people can probably figure it out but perhaps a bit of clarification on what the parts are that you are referring to could help?

My understanding is the cup is the plate that gets bolted to the bike and the mounting bolt is the part that goes into the "V".

Is anything else included? Like pegs, linkage etc or is that all extra?

I added a drawing to my original post that you can download that shows all the parts that I am referring to. As stated in the original post, I am not supplying pegs/linkages etc.
