Shaving down 360 Triple clamp

Moglix

cb360....
So i'm wanting to put clip ons on my 74' CB360. The triple clamp is fine, but wanting to cut off gauge mounts and shave/file down the section where the risers sit, so its more level with the rest of the triple clamp.
My question/ concern is that this may alter the structual integrity of the triple clamp, but at the same time have no idea if it will or not?
Anyone got any suggestions, ideas, links etc?? Have searched here, found an aftermarket one a dude hade cnc'd, looks awesome, but failing that any other way i could make my top triple clamp look nicer?
Thanks in advance!

What is on the back of the casting? As long as the thickness is there some good webbing underneath of it I can't imagine that would weaken it.

I've got a milling machine so I'd just clamp it down spin some handles and flatten it out. You could likely saw it off with a hacksaw and the using a mill bastard file get it looking pretty good.

its fine. Ask Crazy PJ about it; i know hes done it before.

the extra height of the riser section really doesnt add much strength at all.

thats what on thought, figured I'd cut off the speedo mounts etc then just try carefully with angle grinder to take down the riser section... I'm going to try this weekend, so will post some pics, see how it goes...

Knocked the gauge mounts off mine yesterday. Took bout an hour and is damn smooth now. Go slow and be careful not to take too much off with the power tools and then use less aggressive methods as you get close.

For simple machining stuff ship it to me and pay for shipping back and I'll mill it.

I need stuff to practice on!!! :)

NOT CNC so no fancy patterns.

Thanks!! Its on, got some clip ons yesterday, so this will be done sat night in a garage session... i better lay easy on the beers :)
