Just fitted the seat 1 hr ago and I really like it. Man is it comfortable and looks cool I think 8)
Engine starts and runs so sweet - sounds great and has a fantastic note. I will do a sound clip sometime for you all to hear.
I have an oil leak to contend with (behind the front sprocket) I should have fitted a new bearing when the engine was stripped down. (I new it had been running a tight chain previously and I should have remembered that)
Need to fit and finish the lights - rear indicators when I work out what do do with them.
Must sort the front brakes which at the moment suck! Very spongy. Great rears though which has enabled me to do a few test rides.
That has got to be the nicest looking brand new CB I have ever seen. ;D
Seriously though that is art... I know this site has alot of more extreme mods but this is prestine...
I'll be darned if I can recall the person who own's the 550 in the bottom pic, but it was one of the bikes from years back that got me excited about my own bikes.
The tank on that bike is a CB750K tank (1976 and earlier). Always one of my faves.
Someone asked about the seat : Upholstery was custom made by Roy at Superior Saddles (Auckland , New Zealand - where I live). I did the cowl and the hinge attachment. Roy really surprised me with the way he did it and I was well pleased. He did not measure my arse but its a perfect fit anyway. :
What does "bobbing" the rear fender mean / entail?
bobbing the rear fender is basically cutting it out so that there is no rear fender.
They used to do it to lighten up the bike.
however, since the cb550 the rear fender is 2 pieces, so you can basically remove the outer fender & taillight while retaining the inner plastic fender.
I would not take off the back fender, I would just trim it up about 5 inches maybe to a point or rounded point and then re-flair the edge of it, I think that would look really good. just my 2 cents.
awsome bike, i like the look of your seat with the full rear fender. i want to add a cafe seat to mine yet keep the rear fender also. i already have a spare seat pan, just need to find a tank to build mine as like Leon has showed us all. this way i can switch from a single seat to a stock to carry passengers. by the way i have seen that bike in the bottom pic with the black exhaust. it belongs to someone on the sohc/4 board.
