Shorai battery exploded

Ok so did some minor testing on the bike. All lighting is shot and I redid the wiring harness enough to start her. Luckily the ignition is still functioning. My reg/rec is blown as well but am not sure if the battery explosion caused it or the other way around. I am going to order a mosfet style one that someone posted on page one.

Almost definitely the other way around. A failed R/R will almost always take a LI-ION battery with it.

I cannot recommend this charger enough! Plug in once every one to two months for an evening to balance and check cell health and you'll never have an issue. IF there is some funny business going on with the internal balancing circuitry you're a helluva lot more likely to discover it before catastrophic failure like we see here. I learned through my hobby that these kinds of batteries absolutely do not like imbalanced cells :p

Edit: I feel like these smart chargers are even more important when using a Shorai on these old bikes!

Oh man no way! Well, major foot in mouth moment for me, haha. I guess you just had some bad luck with this one? :-X

Also, I hope that post didnt read as being specifically directed at you, I intended for it to be more of a PSA :)

No worries redbullenema!

Ok just got off the phone with Electrosport. I will be sending them my unit for testing so they can warranty it. The rep advised me that their products are NOT to be used with lithium batteries including Shorai. I asked why, and he simply said they are not compatible. I feel that they should put a fairly large disclaimer on all their products if this is the case.

This is precisely why I am always telling people to add overcharge protection with a lithium battery. All it takes is one diode to fail.

Can you explain how one would go about doing this, please? I'm def interested!
