Hey guys iv done some work on google and iv seen people shorten stock forks by cutting and re-threading the tube to the size you want. But im looking at getting a XS650 with some crazy long forks! From what the guys over on the XS650 site have said that the fork lowers are stock to the bike and that someone just added the long fork tubes for the chopper look. So does anyone know if I could hack these things up and get them to stock length?
At first I was just going to buy or trade for some stock forks but I am really liking the early style lower forks. And cutting down the ones I have will save time and $!
So do yall think I can I chop these crazy guys down to size. Do you think cutting a spring that long down to stock size give me some crazy spring rate?
Sry the pic ant the greatest but you get the idea.
Have you taken them apart to see if the springs are long or just have spacers in there? I didn't understand your comment about trading them for stock forks? Are these not stock lowers? Does someone with a stock fork wanting longer ones have what you need to swap?
Well like I said I don't have the bike yet, im waiting to see if he will do a trade with me. So I cant pull the forks apart to look and see if they are spacers or just one long spring.
As far as trading them goes I would try and trade the forks (lowers and tubes) with someone on CL or some of the guys on XS650 forum. The XS650 is a big time chopper bike so I figured someone will want the extended ones for there build.
