Should I bake my brake caliper?

Been Around the Block
Hey ya'll,

I'd like to use my remaining engine paint to paint my front break caliper and of course I'd also like to cure it properly...so my question is.

Is there anything within the front caliper assembly that would melt or get damaged If I baked it in my toaster oven? :)

I know these things get hot on a regular basis anyway, but I'd just like a thumbs up from someone.

I would just buy some caliper paint. It's designed to be durable, remember that brake fluid is some of the nastiest stuff out there. You can buy it in small amounts and apply it with a brush. Your caliper most likely has a rubber seal around the brake pad.

I'm not to concerned about brake fluid exposure since a properly functioning caliper won't leak fluid.
Fully cured engine enamel also resists brake fluid.
You don't sound confident about your answer... afterall, it's just 200 degress...guess I'll give it a try if no one else has an opinion.

You are making a simple task overly complicated.

Clean it, paint it with caliper paint let it dry a day, and be finished.

The only thing you'll damage is the piston seal. Get the piston and seal out, spray it out with brake clean so it doesn't smoke nearly as much, and have at it. You can't really damage anything other than rubber or plastic.

Thanks for the replies guys...I'll suck it up and just let it cure from the heat of the brakes....guess that means being careful not to scratch it before then.

I'm not confident about it because I wouldn't do it, because there's no point. Of course a functioning caliper won't leak. As we all know, everything on these bikes is 100% reliable and doesn't break. Right? Right? And it's certainly not possible to get a couple drips on it (which is enough to eat the paint) while your bleeding the brakes. Right?
