Should I buy? 1978 Honda CB750k

Hello All,

I'm looking into the bike listed below.

I have no experience with 70's CBs but I've got a garage full of tools and haven't encountered a mechanical issue I couldn't best, yet.

Visually the bike looks sound (from a distance) and starts right up. I have not seen the bike in person and have not been able to inspect the frame/suspension/electrical yet.

I'd like some advice before I spend a few hours in the car just to take a look in person.

Thanks!

Sounds good. I think that $3k is pushing it, but I'm a cheapie. Do pay attention to that 'no title' part, too. That seat looks like kind of an afterthought for the money.

I'd look at that for sure for that price, probably cost you the same or more to build the same thing. Thats just me since im in Canada.Idles steady, starts right up and has a pretty 76 gas tank. 78 tanks are ugly.

Damn you guys are fast, thanks for the advice!

Does anyone know the end-end length of a 78 CB750? It would be great if this bike, or whichever I end up, with fit in the bed of my truck.

Don't worry if u want it bad enough you'll make it fit!!!!!

I'd steer clear of anything with no title. I'm not sure where you're from but I know getting something retitled in PA incredibly hard. Also, for not having a title the price seems high.

Standard in Maine, Just something to keep in mind.

I really love how anyone that knows what they're doing knows they can get a >15 year old bike titled anywhere in the US for about 60$, but no one can be bothered to do it before they try to sell it. so stupid.

Any titling service I've seen has been around $800.00. What's your angle?

Title thing is not an issue in a lot of States... On thing I would just make sure when you ride it is the no speedo, in Indiana a motorcycle made after 1950(? I think) has to have a speedo by law. you also have to have mirrors and other minor things some people don't put on their bikes. Are you going to get pulled over and get a ticket for no speedo? Not likely... If your speeding at 20mph over and you tell the officer "I don't know how fast I was going, I don't have a speedo" that may be another situation... I would check your local BMV/DMV in person or their website to get the list of rules/regulations so you know what you can and can't have on your bike since you're new to this.

+1 true story... I sell a lot of them and some bikes I still do sell without a title though. Reason being is for me in Indiana you can only title 6 bikes a year (6 like vehicles) without being licensed as a dealer in that type of vehicle... So I'll sign 6, my wife 6, brother 6 etc... Sometimes I get to my max or am just lazy with the whole process. In Indiana it only costs 15 bucks. :p

You don't go through a "titling service" you find the right routes to take and paperwork to have to get one at your local BMV/DMV without the "professional" people at titling services that take 60000% profit to get you a paper that cost them 15-100 to get in any US state.

This is not necessarily true, both in difficulty and cost. It is not a straightforward process everywhere.

True. I don't think the titling process is the same process in any two states. It took me over a year to figure out the loopholes to go through to get a title in Indiana. After I did I've been doing it easily and cheaply for years...
I have recommended in the past we start a thread/category specific to titling and each state have its own category.. That way we can share the information and people can have a source to go to direct them to their state and get their title... I know a lot of states this is possible, you just need to find out the loopholes on your own. No law enforcement or BMV/DMV person will tell you and in most cases don't even know. Personally I have sold to I think 4 different states without titles and they got them and I also got a kaw a7ss shipped over to France without any paperwork at all!!! And that went through customs, over the pond and all!!.. It can be done, paperwork and people along the way your first time may drive you insane but its possible... In NO state will it cost $800 though.

actually it is. 2 forms, and 60$ A week later you have a plate. It's called Vermont. They don't issue titles to anything older than 15 years.

I live in texas. I've titled 2 bikes this way. Stupid easy. You're all welcome
