Should I get the Ace 50 for my first bike?

As I'm only 15 at the moment (16 in mid-august) I'm restricted to 50cc and I really don't want to get a scooter. I can get the Ace 50 for a reasonable price and I'm wondering whether it is worth it. Also, I'm not thinking about de-restricting it. I'd also appreciate it if someone could tell me what bike parts I would need to replace as I've heard that some parts do need replacing.

Thanks.

I think it's worth a mention that I live in the U.K as well so the weather can play a big part in the decision.

Yes, quite frankly! Get it, do the CBT stuff, ride it, enjoy it, derestrict it if you want ( not sure how fast the 50 is…), grin and bear the vile weather-its all part of the learning process and it can't really rain forever. They are stunning looking bikes and mine makes me chuckle like a loon every outing, even after years of great big, exotic, weird and wonderful bikes. Just replace the bits you bend or which fall off.
Being born in mid August is a good thing-it makes us right about just about everything!

Thanks for the reply, would I need to change the tyres? I've read that the stock ones aren't too good.
(Sorry about all the questions, I'm useless with motorbikes.)

Hi yyzdd

I can't comment on the engine but the basic bike is sound and in my view ideal as a learner.
All I'd say you need to replace is the tyres as the standard ones are probably a bit crap in the wet - I can't believe I'm telling someone to replace brand new tyres! I've ridden on all kinds of shite in the past!!

Anything else is down to you but you'll get plenty of tips from this forum! And help if you need it.....

Bikes are ace and people with them are some of the friendliest, helpful, decent folk you can meet. Buying an ACE is a sure fire way for you to meet some of them!

for the money the ace costs you can get a cb50 (if you find one). the good thing about them is they are tough as hell and keep their value if not crashed and trashed...

if you do buy an ace replace all the things that feel like crap (i've heard the rear shocks aren't too good, replace the carb with a keihin,...)

bigger wheels are better so you should be better off in the rain with an ace then with a scooter. good luck to you!
