So started talking to a guy about a month ago when I was first interested in getting a project. Saw two cb750s listed for $1200

Went and checked them out, guy claims they both run but need a little work, also claims both have titles. It's really tempting, but I'm worried I might be getting ripped off...

Well what is your "desktop" worth? And we are talking about a desktop computer, correct? Also, if he claims these things, he should be able to back them up. Get a look at the titles, get the VIN/serials from the bikes/off the titles and make sure they check out by going to the police station or DMV(not sure who does that specifically). And if that checks out, tell him to start them...

You know, two cb750s for 1200 sounds interesting to me. I know I'd think about getting them. I'd ask more about the "little work" comment. That could mean anything. He might not realize a new battery and clean carbs could get the bike running all day long. On the other hand, you could have bad piston rings that is "little work" for a guy that's been a mechanic for 30 years. But there's potential to get them running and sell them for a profit, if nothing else.

I know he had them running last year but got a gsx-r and lost interest in the vintage bikes. The little work he said it needed a front brake Master cylinder and jets for the 750k. Still not to sure on the custom. I know the 750k has a inspection sticker that is good until this coming march, good sign right?

If you like the DOHC CB750 then there you go. They'll hold their value a lot longer than a computer will so its a better place to have $1200 invested IMHO.

That being said know what you're buying - CB750's are not all the same and 90% of the vintage CB750's you see out there are the earlier SOHC models.

pull the trigger....these deals don't come around everyday...I spend hours trying to trade on CL from cell phones to motorcycles (sometimes) That is a great deal you could get over 1200 for one of them

I own one and wouldn't take it on as a first project - but if neither needs the engine pulled that's a deal.
