Been Around the Block
We are on the way Down Under in March 20112 and we are renting a bike for a week trip out of Melbourne.
I have worked out a rough 2500k route and would like some opinions as to "must ride" roads.
I'll forward the Google map to anyone who is up for it.
Also wouldn't mind seeing some rides. We will be in Sydney for a few days and Melbourne as well.

If you go to Melbourne (best city in the world imho, and that's someone from Europe saying that) and rent a bike, there is one MUST, MUST, MUST.

The Great Ocean Road, just west of Melbourne.

So if you make it a week trip, you could do: Great Ocean Road - Grampians - Adelaide - Kangaroo Island.

You could also do a daytrip from Melbourne to Phillip Island an pay the MotoGP circuit there a visit.

try www.motorcyclerides.com.au you can even download directions etc to your iphone

Must ride roads in NSW are the Putty Rd and the Oxley Hwy...even the Old Pacific Hwy north out of Sydney....

Drive the 'riding roads' around Bright, Victoria. Then head on up and check out some coastal and highlands roads. I'd suggest Goulburn > Nowra > Wollongong > Black Springs > Oberon > Bathurst if you intend on heading that far north.

Cheers - boingk
