simplest way to fit a new speedo mechnism?

hey all the original speedo mechanism on my bike ran off the rear wheel and was housed in an ugly plastic chain guard housing. I'm hoping to bin it as I want the bike to have a stripped down minimalist look. Any idea how to replace it? I have access to a laithe so turning new components isn't a problem. If anyone has done something similar I'd like to see how it was done? cheers

its a1977 MZ Ts150, I'd like to bin the goofy plastic hub and chain guard, but the speedo mechanism is built in!

Buy an Acewell or bicycle speedo with a magnet pick-up. Then mount it wherever you want.

Yup an "electronic" speedo will solve your problem.
You'll have to fab a spacer to fill the space from the removed gearing obviously.
