I'm 30 years old and collecting my first ever bike, a Skyteam Ace 125 next week!
I know very little about bikes and haven't been on one in about 10 years, maybe more.
I was wondering what mods i can do straight off the bat to make the bike a bit faster as i've heard they're a bit sluggish.
Any help would be great! Thanks.
The most important single improvement for performance is to get the best exhaust you can, plus re-jet the carby.
Bending a pipe yourself, or getting someone to do it for you, is the best option as most of the commonly available solutions range from inadequate to detrimental.
The biggest improvement in handling is gained from putting decent rear shocks on and some preload for the forks. Tyres could do with an upgrade, I prefer Michelin M45.
There is a plethora of information in this forum, but just ask about specifics anytime.
First I would suggest making it safer Then faster 8)
I would insist that the dealer has the wheels trimmed. The factory seem to have a random spoke tightening regime. Those who haven't had them sorted from new end up with broken spokes and all sorts of other knock on issues.
Secondly, if you don't have a torque wrench, I would ask them to get their mechanic or whoever assembles it out of the box to check at least the safety related nuts and bolts against the torque wrench settings which you can find in the documents section of the facebook page.

If you live near other owners I am sure they will give you a hand, if you need it, with mods.
sound advice from two gentlemen in the know
my biggest gains are all due to exhaust. find a good motorbike exhaust guy in your city. header needs only to be about the same outer diameter or at most one pipe size bigger. get end of pipe expanded to take an emgo shorty reverse cone box. repack box with bike wading. it might be a bit loud but will get you going ok.that was 6 months worth of trying different things. conversely dig out cat converter from pipe and put a big drill up standard pipe end(16 mm drill bit aprox)
Now begins the modifications. Take a look at oo racing website. They are in England and ship world wide. Their header pipe is a good start and add their commando muffler. Not saying it is the best exhaust but will improve the way your bike runs. Get their jet kit for carb or a package. A good start and will get your bike going better. They are not cheapest way but easy way for a boost in power. I got their 150 cc upgrade early in my journey and found it a good second step. Now I do all my own mods but doing these two mods gave me a lift from stock 4.8 hp to just over 10 hp. I have a bit more than that now but gains are much harder to get than this. If you do exhaust and piston pot mod go up from 15 tooth front cog to 16.
Well ant85 have you got your ace going yet I have a50cc and a 125cc and I live in Northern Ireland
