Hi y,all
quick intro.Male ,fit,65 years old, british but been living in france for the last 12 years.Lifelong biker averse to plastiic.I like the bikes of my youth-exposed engine, spoke wheels.perimeter frames, singles and twins.Just replaced my old Gilera nuevo saturno with another one(first was stolen and never recovered in 2000)My wife wanted a bike to join me on local rideouts on our sensational, twisty, quiet local french roads.having been a 125 honda and 350 K4 honda pilot in clubman racing in the mid 90s,she can ride well. After a recent broken wrist and a log layoff from biking she was keen to get a small lightweight machine.I read about the skyteam ace 125-its diminutive size and weight being a great attraction.
ANYWAY I bought one from Cyril Chell in Stafford UK-£1200 with chrome guards.
Cyril shipped the bike to Adrian at OO racing in sandwich kent to breathe his magic on it.
250 zong chen double ohc motor fitted with all ancilliaries-k and n filter, adjustable cdi, straight through pipe with norton peashooter silencer(well sort of silence)
Conti soft tyres, ebc brakes with braided hose.Q/A throttle, new headlight and tiny clocks.New battery, chrome sidestand .gas/air shocksetc etc.
All in all an extra £2400 inc labour.
The bike was shipped to SW france for £250.
Registration was a doddle with COC and sales invoice.(registered as a 125)
The wife loved the looks but fears she has been too long off a bike to ride confidently,so I have the chore of riding it instead.
WELL
What a revelation.
With 24hp and 80kgs to carry it really flies. It pulls like a 500 single with 65mph cruising on 1/4 throttle.
handling and quick turning is hugely confidence inspiring.I now ride through the twisties with throttle open and no comfort braking.Even though the speeds are modest the feeling is pure motogp.
Riding a small bike to its limits is a pure joy.
My friend who rides and wheelies his GSXR1000 is so impressed hes ordered one.
I am definitely going to put a race fairing on it-looks beautiful.
Dont buy one if you are the shy type.Everywhere I go I am accosted by men of a certain age who assume it is a renovated CR110.or CR93.
Is there a race series for the ACE?
Any owner clubs?
As soon as I get the chance I will post some pics

Welcome to the forum!

The only other 250cc conversion that I know of is p-40 here in Sydney.

We are looking forward to seeing the photos of your new bike!

Crazy

G'day Peter. Good to hear you love the ACE. They're a great little bike.

I recently dropped the 250 from OORacing into my STA125 after a broken valve stem in the 606 BB kit pretty much wrote off the top end of my 125.

Man, I gotta say, the 250 is a revelation! Totally new bike. Not only does get up to 80 kph (the speed limit on my commute) in seconds, it also has real magic down low in the revs. I've ridden bikes for over 20 years and the 250 has so much torque it's amazing. Reminds me of my Thruxton 900 when it comes to pulling away at low revs. Now I see a gap and can pin it without changing down 2 cogs and the gap is mine. Before it used to frustrate me to see the gaps come and go. Not now.

I've only had the motor for a week or two so haven't tested the top speed, but I look down now and regularly see 100. If I was doing 100kph with the 606 the bike would sure let me know. Not the 250, it's very happy there.

Anyway, enjoy the ride.

Nigel

P.S. Tom. I might be a bit more keen for a ride through the National Park now I can get up the hills. Shoot me a text when you're heading out on a weekend next. I'd be up for a ride this Sunday even. Peace!
