Ok so I have a question or you could even call it a request for guidance.
I have a 72 sl 350 and a whack of parts and even a spare block. Anyway I have 3 heads to choose from and have narrowed it down to 2. Now I'm not sure which one to use the one that looks all reconditioned or the one that needs cleaning, I know what your going to say, use the reconditioned one stupid!.
Have a look and let me know what you think if you would use it.
like barnett promotes
you need to take the valves out of all the heads mark to what hole the came out of
then go thru and check the valve stems valve guides as per ther fsm then do a good visual on all the valves and their seat then check the seat width and contact on every one
check all the valve springs at free length \
you cant tell by looking at them what been laid out is the only way to verify the best and i probably forghhot an important check its all in the factory service manual
are they all three sl heads with the smaller intake port ?smaller than cb cl or sl ko
I want to use the recon head, I've done a leak test and it held up perfect.
My concern is the compression side where it looks ruff around the edge. I have all intentions of cleaning the crusty one up so I can build another motor out of the rest of the parts I have.
some dings in the squish wont hurt anything
did you have that head reconed ?
if so they should have ajnswered the checks listed in the fsm?
if you are going to be building engines you need to learn more and get some tools
use the fsm as a guide
