Sleek & Sexy CL360

More bad news... I need a donor engine.

Now that the motor has been opened up, looks like there's quite a bit more mileage on this thing than what we understood when the bike was sold to me. I've got broken piston rings and all kinds of little bits that will need replaced.

Does anyone have a CL360 motor in good repair that they'd be willing to part with for a reasonable price?

Yeah, that's a huge bummer man; he showed me the parts when I stopped by this afternoon.

Ever seen a set of VR6 chain tensioners that are about 15K past replacement? Your tensioners are in worse shape than that. :'(

Oh man, that sucks! hopefully you'll find one and be back in action soon.

How about a complete donor bike? I'm sure you could talk this guy down a few hundo, and it looks like there's lots of good parts that you could sell off too: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/mcy/1199058144.html

Way too rich for this project...

He has access to a fully rebuilt and dialed engine for $450, but after the initial build, fundage is a bit tight me thinks. Really wahts needed is a decent untouched engine on the cheap...

Hey are 350 motors compatible or completely different? They sure look similar from the outside.

From my understanding they are different animal altogether; 350 will not fit a 360 frame.

Of course, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. Doesn't sound like that's really an option, tho.

Completely different. Why not just rebuild the old motor? Bump the compression, some headwork...

That's half the battle right there.

Check this out; dude on ADVrider shoehorned a 350 engine into his 360:

Starts getting good around page 5 or so.

Will at Poor Bastard Cycle Works is a motherf***ing PRINCE!

It might be appropriate now to change the title of this thread to CJ360... I've got a new CJ360 engine on this bike. Total cost?

$150

Yeah. I dropped off a bottle of Maker's when I picked up the bike last night. Will did the labor pro-bono for the most part, and put 200+ miles on it, dialed it in, etc. This bike is BADASS and feels so good now. No more rattling, no more smoking, it idles, it's got about 180 compression and lots more pick-up-and-go... Let me tell you it feels so great to have a road-worthy and reliable bike.

So the next few days will be spent cleaning and painting... this Saturday Jordan and I are entering the bikes at the Rose City Roundup hot rod show, so I need to get that engine blacked out and touch up some of the scuffed parts. I'll take some photos as I work on this hog tonight so you can see this ugly barn engine before I paint!

hey man, great build. UPDATE us tho, need to know what it's like with that new engine in there. And i'm also curious as to which tires you used (specific brand/model) I don't seem to remember seeing it in your posts, tho i could've missed it due to staring longingly at the photos.

Sorry for the overdue update!

The new CJ360 engine was dropped in, and after a small issue with the carbs, it's been running STRONG all summer. Fires up in 2 kicks! Did a rat rod show, did some cruise ins, long rides in the country, got the bike almost up to 90mph (allegedly), got lots of comments and questions on the road as well as perpetually sore wrists... it's been a great summer! I haven't been riding much in the last 2-3 weeks... had a massive heat wave then it started raining!

I really need to get the front end cleaned up... between the front wheel needing trued, a missing fork brace, bad fork seals and almost non-existent brake pads, it's not at peak performance. I'm really wanting to build a rigid bobber over the winter but we'll see if that happens... I already have lots of projects waiting for me.

I am leaving for a vacation tomorrow morning, so updated pictures of the new taillight and baffles will need to wait a week. Jordan remind me to post pictures when we get back!
