that is a clean bike! In 3 months time too? Geez.... great job man. Is she a runner?

Perattzi, thanks man, yeah i had it running when I started. I'm waiting on clutch push rod parts. It also has oil leaks from both covers. I hope to change out a few things after I get her going. IE; new tires, headlight bucket, rear shocks (has some pitting), then i'd like to start a metric bobber some time next winter. Troy

If that is rattle can paint, I'm going to throw my devilbis guns in the trash! I agree with the other guys; the bike has the look just as she sits. Keep the finishing touches low profile. I can't wait to see some outside photos of this bike!

Thank you guys. Have to admit. It is turning out much, much better than I ever dreamed.

i got a buddy that can CNC you badges with anything you want on them!
Joe I'm very interested. Not sure what to have done but I think the build is calling for it. do you have any ideas?

Clutch push rod parts (bearings, ball, retainer bolt and seal) came in. The lever feels very strong but the clutch doesn't want to engage at first. In gear, if I engage the clutch, it doesn't engage at all until I rock the bike back and forth a few times. Then it still feels like its not 100% fully engaged. The back wheel has a little drag. Adjusting the cable or the bolt at the clutch rod doesn't change much. It feels like something is going on in the clutch pack. I plan to pull the cover off tonight.

sill need to rebuild pitcock and clear the tank/tail with two stage. The eastwood clear is on backorder for at least another week :(
Man it's getting close and I'm really itching to ride!

I've been looking for factory badges but was weighing other options. The seats not white. It doesn't have the cover on it. It's black.
I fould these
but not sure if they would fit. I've got an email out to the seller but haven't heard back yet. They are brand new. I'm not holding my breath, but I think they would be so sweet!

That puts a smile on my face Joe. Thank you!

It turns out that I can rattle can better than two stage. I ordered the two stage clear in a can from Eastwood. It was on back order and would take atleast two weeks. Cancled that order and ended up buying a quart of clear and hardner for $30.00. They (NAPA) also have a sprayer that I bought for $5. Its pretty cool, except its not as easy to use as a rattle can. I hit the tank first and got a few runs. I tried the flood trick but it didn't work. By the time I got to the tail I got much better. Came out real nice. Plan on redoing the tank tomorrow. Here's a question: What grit can I hit those big ol runs with???

Anyway, I've kinda locked myself away over the past 2-3 days and have been getting all kinds of stuff done. took throttle cables off and lubed the hell out of them. Didn't help. Ended up being at the grip in the push cable. Every time I tightened the grip down the throttle would stick. Almost gave up. Ended up removing the push cable and adding a spring at the carb. It works sweet now. I know that the the push cable is supposed to be there but it works 100% better now.
Took the cases off and to my suprise everything looks brand new! Cleaned the covers and wire wheeled all the bolts. Clear coated and put it back together with copper rtv ( I just cleared the bolts for now). Put the clutch push rod parts on and installed that cover. I'm having a hard time getting it adjusted though. I still have to rock the bike to get the clutch to completly engage. Made and painted a license plate holder. Cleared the VW exhaust tips. Also, I've done a bunch of other yada yada stuff... bike is now licensed and insured. It's so close....
The only thing I'm waiting on to fire her up is clear on the tank, and pitcock gasket and pitcock lever. Bike shop said it would take a week. I may try to get them somewhere else faster. Its killing me now. I really want to ride.

Wanted to add that the badges I posted about won't fit :(. also, since I've never ever seen a cafe racer in my entire state I'd like to ask for help with my custom vanity tags. Eight positions are allowed. Minimum of two and max of 8. I know it is kind of a personal thing but would you guys want to throw some ideas at me?

plate... XsellR8 or JusCrzn (two of my old plates)
soft hands and wet sand that clear at 1000, i would try 1500 first on the runs... dont go too deep or back to ground 0.... may even want to just put in the elbow time and stick with the 2000

I've taken a razor blade and shaved off larger runs (then just wet sand as usual) . I've also started with 600 BUT you have to put it on a really hard block AND only sand the run itself. Then, sand with 1200-2000. Good Luck! OH, only wet sand this stuff.

Once again thank you guys.
Joe, Those are cool. Decided to go with xsellr8 until I read Herms post. XCELLR8 will be second choice.
I tried to chase the runs and made it worse. Its pretty bad so i'm going to try course grit on the runs. I'm holding my breath.

Herm, DOTHETON it is! I'm having one of those, "why didn't I think of that" moments. ::)

Chris, On the runs I'm going to try the 600 with a hard block...Thanks

I'm having no luck with ordering parts for the petcock. Entire assembly is no longer avail. I've ordered a new gasket and lever but the retainer plate and spring is no longer avail. I wish I'd dealt with this during mock up. I'm still going forward with paint with a prayer that this isssue will get worked out. I'm dying to fire her up. Bike is completly reassembled except mirrors and tank. The Herm shift lever is done. I don't think it turned out as nice as his, but its still pretty nice.

Just throw a 'www.' and '.com' on either side of your plate and we're golden ;)
