small CL 360 project

if you remove the plates you not only and end up with more space to fill but it'll leave holes where the plates were welded. Unless you carefully cut them out, but either way I don't see a reason to remove them. I bonded them without removal on my first tank, but i'm considering trying Quick Steel to fill 'em in on the one I'm doing now...
Good info Herm, thank you. figure I'll try some bondo and see how it goes. Troy

Got the bike running today. I couldn't stand it any more so I wnet and bought a couple of plastic ketchup containers. filld with gas and attached to the fuel lines. Kicked it about 5-6 times but it wouldn't fire. So I attached a wire to the starter and jumped the starter from my son's jeep. Fired right up. I didn't want it to get too hot yet so after a few minutes I shut her down. I waited 5-10 minutes and kick her. She started on the second kick. Sorry no video. Later on I decided to mess around and take a few photos.

Almost forgot the most important thing. It is much quiter but has a deeper rumble. Right now I really like it.

Brake update. Damn thing works great! If anyone was considering doing the rear brake mod I'd say go for it. Today I wired up my ketchup bottles and took her out the road. At about 25-30mph I hit the rear brake and it worked great. A little extra pressure and it locked the rear wheel. ;D Sweet! Didn't take much effort at all.
I still can't find my little digital camera that lets me take video. As soon as I find it I'll post something up.
Got a little body work done on the tank today. I expect to paint re-paint it tomorrow. Troy

Good to hear you got to ride it! I like the ketchup bottle idea, thats the same thing I used to fill my carbs up with to get mine running... ;D

Not quite there yet, but the ride felt so good! If I can't get the tank and pitcock resolved by the end of next week I think I'm gonna throw an IV bag of gas into a backpack and start riding! HAHAHA, just kidding.
wired in some blue LEDs and turned out real nice. And down below is another photo of the Herm homemade shifter (thanks again Herm) There is a little flex in the rod at times so I plan to slide some tubing over the rod. Also developed a leak in both fork seals.

I like the simplicity of them rearsets.
Say, something in the lower photo doesn't seem right....The lower rear engine mounting bolt seem to be backed out. The big one just above the kickstand.
Looks like I see where paint is scraped by the nut when it's supposed to be tightened. Maybe I'm seein' things or there's a spacer not visible.
All the way on or all the way off.

I see it too.

Anyway, the bike looks awesome! The rearsets look good too. I may be making some rearsets in the future but I don't think I'll need them.

that spindle is where the old foot peg used to be mounted, that what t is on my 360,nice bike btw.

Looking TITS! I found the first thing you've done so far that I don't totally agree with... the blue LED's. Not sure about that, seems like something that the rice guys do on their cheaply tuned Honda Civics... Just my thoughts.

Do you have any issue with the kick stand getting in the way of your rear sets? That's a concern I've had on mine, but I really don't want to run that big heavy center stand.

Hey Nate and Goodfor, thanks for the heads up guys. Yep that is where the factory foot pegs mounted. Maybe I should make a spacer?? Anyhow, My favorite part of the build is one I almost didn't use until my son talked me into it. That's the rear brake set up. Works great!

I really appreciate your honesty (yours too Derek). Don't figure I'll hardly ever run the blue LEDs. If many more guys come on and not like them then the LEDs are gone ;) However, I figured the chicks might dig them and chicks always rule (even if they want you to wear their clothes ;D) hehe.

I kinda wish I'd cut the kick stand and left the center stand. I'm like you and wanted to loose the weight. After I cut the center stand I was very surprised at how little it really weighed. Because of the kick stand I had to adjust the shift lever a little more horizontal than what I would have liked. Although it's not a huge deal because my feet are not that big (don't tell the chicks ;D), The other option would be to grind the welds on the kick stand bracket and reweld it forward on the frame. Would'nt be that hard to do. The inside weld would be the hardest.
On the brake side the kick lever misses the lever and peg easly. The only thing is that once in a while my foot would slip off and the kick lever would turn in (like when you turn the kick lever in to put it out of the way) at the bottom and catch on the brake lever. There is not enough room for it to clear in the 'in' position. So I would have to reach down and push the kick lever down and turn it back out so that it would clear the brake lever. Again, for me, not that big of a deal.

Oh ya, since were kinda on rear sets, if anyone is looking for tierod ends for sifter linkage, ACE Hardware ordered mine for pretty cheap. Troy

i LOVE the LED's I wire them up all the time! my only consern and the reason that my TX will not have them is the drain on the chargin systems... here are some of the ones i have done in blue

and the chop i just finished
Hyper white over the motor and true white on the wheels... (if not the wheels will look like they are flashing a blue'ish light while they are spinning... pushing the legal limit there... looks awesome!

I vote no the the LEDs but it's your bike, you gotta do what's gonna make you happy. And if the chicks dig it, there's no question! ;D

again man, check your charging system, that is going to be the deal breaker... you may want to ask steve on this one... i know CB350's are known for having crap charging systems... this may do more harm than you think... i would love to know though cause i light up all my bikes... hense Lite Em Up Customs...
would be dope to get some HIGH intensity Green on my cafe build! hell or even the white i have would look sick! i may hit up steve to see what he thinks!

Hey JRK, those bikes are sick! You may be right about the charging system being the deal breaker. I have a 5 a/h battery to run kick start only.
It needs to run headlight, tail light (4 LEDs), the speedo light, and the 4 LEDs at .01amp each that I added. I know its not anything near what you are running on those bikes Joe, but I realize that they do draw extra power. I hope I'm below the charging system capabilities.

I searched and called everywhere for the retainer plate for the petcock, but it's not avail and no one seems to have one on the shelf. And today I received a gasket rebuild kit from the guy on ebay. I had sent him an email asking about the plate a few days ago. He replied today that he just happened to have a brand new petcock that he can sell me ;D. So i may be in business but you know how these things go, so I'm not holding my breath. The guy does have a good many nos gaskets and rebuild items for vintage Hondas. Here is his ebay store if anyone wants to look. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/dgs38_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

A bit of an update and hopefully my next update will be in the show n shine ;D.
I'm so close. received a brand new petcock in the mail today. It is now mounted on the tank. Over the past 2-3 days I've been fighting with the body work on the tank. Just couldn't get it to where I was happy with it. I put about 3 coats of color on it yesterday and of course you can see a little bit of the body work. Some of it will be hidden under the knee pads and I hope that more coats will help the couple of other places.
So I plan to finish coating the tank tonight. Then hopefully I'll get my new decals from swapmeetlouie tomorrow. Once they get put on the tank it will get two stage clear. Then ready to ride.... the next things to do will be to rejet the carbs, make a fork brace and at the end of the summer, purchase new tires. But first I hope to be riding it some ;D
I want to throw some props to the guy that saved my ass with the brand new petcock that is longer available. You might check him out if you need vintage Honda parts. This is his ebay store:
