well i got a new sled... got a 440 sno pro with a Zr chassis... 92hp for a 440 not to bad! this is a factory race sled... so far, black majic cluch is in... shocks are all rebuilt... bunch of aftermarket stuff figured i would post some pics... it is tore down as we are heading out on the 17th to go up north so not getting too wild with the sled right now,

here is where we are at on it... got the new hand warmers on, hand guards in place... going to weld a T to the stearing handle tonight and go with +6 risers

Got alot of work to do to get her ready for next week!!!! pulled the carbs and they where spotless!!! so that is a plus... sled was a strong runner but before i take it 10 hours north watnd to go though every nut and bolt ya know

Nice Joe... I like that powder... should look sick. I have always wanted to own a snow machine, but I have never really lived anywhere that I could ride easily... one of these days I will pick one up and head to tahoe.

Sweet dude! You make me want to be a powder coater. Thing should look (and handle) pretty sweet with the 6" risers. You should look into the M-series steering post for it. Doesn't take a lot of mods, and feels real good on the ZR chassis (or at least the 1M which I have more experience around) Can't wait to see what you come up with for paint.

Here is the latest of mine, with the new shorty mountain seat:

Ha, even on the sled I don't like windshields! Keep the pics coming man I wanna see how that thing turns out!!

wow, that is badass... i live in snow country, but got into 4 wheel drives instead... they're cool, but i can only have so many hobbies.

that is sick!!!
we got so much done tonight it is unreal! will get pics up in the morning... did not do the six in risers flipped the stearing post and did a 3 in riser set up instead was perfect for me,
paint is simple on this one... will get wild with the paint in the summer for now i just got to get it looking good and running amazing!

ok as promised... here is what we got done with yesterday
first i block sanded the whole hood with 220... yes agressive but the sucker is hard! then i used a red scuff pad on all the other areas i could not not really get into very well., then wiped down with denatured alch, hit it with prep, then tack cloth
(just doing a basic low gloss black i will try my hand at a orange real flame paint job this spring)
primer went on

that is going to be a Killer sled for sure! you guys are gonna have a blast. Haven't been into sleds for a few decades, but still have a shed full of vintage: a pair of Rupp Magnums, a pair a NitroII's, Merc SnowTwister, and a Speedway 650, and a couple others. Someday a want to restore a couple. Have a Great Weekend Man!! Your sled Rules!!

man would love to build a vintage race sled for vintage days! Tim got a nice turbo and intercooler last night he is going to mod to put on his fire cat... will RIP!
dud vintage sleds, last night he showed me this vid of this cat on 340 enticer just hitting this huge jump, flat lands it... hurt by back just watching it!

got the sheild cleaned up and stated some airbrush work... also was able to go though the reeds so good to go there... new fuel filter, hyfax, carb reed boots, plugs, and belt!

figured i would post up some more infomation...
The sled has 2200 miles on it and has had the top end replaced less than 500 miles ago.

The jackshaft has been replaced along with all the drive bearings as well. The clutches were rebuilt the same time the top and was replaced.

Last night Tim (he is here in the shop with us) replace the reeds, carburetor boots, cleaned the carbs and rejeted them. resyncd the carbs and oil pump. also replaced the chain case oil, installed a new fuel filter and put everything back together.

After taking apart the rear skid, we found a few problems that needed to be addressed. Mainly just worn out bushings and bearings, but a few slightly severe problems. The major 1 was someone had welded the top of the rear shock to the bushing. Being that Tim is a insane welder... her fixed it! had to cut the top shock mount off, turn a new 1, fixture it and weld it. just amazing work... wanted to post up some pics of it

ooooooh! except for the luggage rack! That boss seat looks nice.

Sounds like the 440 is in pretty good shape, man! Glad you got the susp. fixed. Keep us updated on the ride. We're going out tomorrow to tear it up.

well... another late night... the airbrush work will have to wait till after the trip... just flat out too much stuff to get done before we leave next week... but here is yesterdays progress

put the shield on and coated the front support bolts in black so they blend in with the sheild
j6sgv4.jpg

from there... a cool trick to make grills easily... use stove overhead screens, take them apart and the screen in there is extremely easy to work wiht
r1gb48.jpg

grills done just need to be powdercoated and cauked in place
24l2d08.jpg

was able to get all the powder shot... black is on the rest of the suspension... and then got all the orange shot... after that we moved on to clearing the orange to really make it pop... here are some pics of what that looks like
(front shock springs and skid parts)

the bumper came out insane!!!! looks great

then used some auto trim paint and shot the green bumper insurt in black

hope to get her back together tonight...
tim welded up some custom stearing stops, modded the air box, and go the engine compartment all back together... 2 more nights and she should be golden!!!

Man, that 440 just looks great bro. There's some real talent in the powdercoating. Question though, why do you raise the bars? I lived up in Cascade, ID for a year or so, and had a Polar-ass 440, and I usually wanted to be lower in the seat, not higher. Is it better for jumping or side-hilling or something? Still, great looking sled!

it is nicer when you are ripping though trails, low seats suck man your knees get all cramped up and it is just a pain when you are doing 150 - 200 miles a day... the higher bars gve you so so so much more control when you are standing and off tail or winding trail riding
well another 2 nights till 3 am... here is the fruits of our labors
while i was finishing up the paint and powder tim did a compression test on her for chits and giggles. 131psi on pro side in 3 pulls and 132psi on mag side in 3 pulls. Damn near perfect lol. Kinda figured it would be with the recent rebuild but never hurts to check when we are going thru everything else anyway. Also got the shocks put back together and installed. coating the springs was well worth it and they came out perfect. With the clear it really pops and has a deeper metallic look.

Tonight we finished mounting the bumper and assorted brackets.

Installed and alligned the hood.

Finished the cowl and belly pans and float plate.

Also rebuilt the rear shocks and got most the skid assembled.

Replaced the spark plug boots and trimmed wires.

Installed the exhaust after stripping and coating.

Very few little items left to finish it up.

with any luck the wife will let me sneak away and take it for a rip tongiht after we get her buttoned up!!!!

it is a 97... before they called them sno pro's but (the year before) but still is a complete race spec sled... this sucker will clear 60 ft kickers no problem... granted NO WAY with me riding it... but it will be a BEAST in the trails! never been so stoaked to ride a sled in my life and i have been on the trails since i was born (litterlay i was 5 months old in a car seat on the back of my dads sled) ha ha ha our family rides

ah i knew I was close...I ride a 99, and I'm saving up to rebuild this summer. Love the 440's not the fastest on the lake or super long straights...but most of the bigger sleds can't hang on the twisties!

Here's me and my oldest "putting" around the yard..

ya i am stoaked for it... mine has a fresh rebuild in it... plus a black magic clutch.. should get up and run!
