hahaha, no but maybe I can think of a few others we can wake up ;D.
Easy plowing today although I buried the tractor over its hood when I first started out. I got over in an unplowed area without even knowing it. Took only 20 minutes to dig her out and I was back in business.
My mom posted a few more photos from their place.
The doors below the deck are the doors I used to come and go when my wife and I stayed there while we built our house.
Sun came out today. It was hit and miss but I saw it. I think it got above freezing today too (high of 34!!!) and not snowing for the first time in forever!!!!!! Spring is just around the corner
Warning: If photos of deep snow give you feelings of suicide don't look at these photos ;D
Went back to my parents today to try to finish the job. I took the wifey and my nephew and his girl friend helped as well.
Any more snow and I think the house will disappear!
Sun was out almost all day today. It did get down to 16 last night but today it was 34 again ;D ;D ;D
I've not had a fire for two days and they are calling for 39 on sunday!!!!!!!!!! Hang on Von, no more cabin fever because spring is almost here!
Well, no more snow today - the sun is actually out and everything is melting pretty good. SO GOOD in fact that the huge chunks of ice in my gutters overwhelmed them. After getting 4 hours of sleep I was woken to the sound of aluminum getting ripped from the house.
On a brighter note, I was talking to the wife and she said about 2 weeks ago she lowered the deductible on our house insurance. Perfect timing!
damn, yesterday it was sunny and 40. took my cafe bike out for the first time since its been done and the first ride of the year. took it out for two rides actually.
glad i did cause today we already have 5 inches and counting.
So I got back from NJ last night, and all the snow in my alley is gone! The streets look like streets again, and it was 42 deg. Amazing. I was excited to say the least. Than I turned on the news.
This snow won't stop. 104" in one month is our record and I think we are going to smash it. We had a couple of days of melt but now its steady snow again. Most of the roads around here including Interstate 68 were closed Friday. The is the top of Cadell Mt where my parents live. This is Rt 7 the main highway between kingwood and Terra Alta:
My dad's driveway
There is a house under all that snow. The windows that you can see are in the sunroom and are glass sliding doors.
Not sure if it pays to be nice....?? I sold 100 bales of hay in December to a guy for under $2 a bale just trying to be nice. Today I need about 100 bales to get me through till the weather breaks. So my ol man with ruptured disc in his back, me with broken ribs and the only heathy one of us, my youngest son, headed to Terra Alta (20 minutes from my house) to pick up 40 bales of hay. Of course I paid over $3 a bale but oh well. I hope to make it back for 3 more trips before the next storm.
Anyhow, I followed my dad and took a few photos while I drove behind him.
the National Guard finally opened up many of the main roads but the secondary roads still have about 6-8' in them :'(
A lady lost her life in the drift below a few years back. During a storm she drove her car into it and they didn't find her for a week.
Below is the area with the side roads with 6-8' of snow. Some of the main road was down to one lane. Here only the middle of the road was open. That is the yellow centerline at the bottom right of the photo. Its hard to appreciate just how much snow is here until you look at the right lane in this photo :'(
ahhh the memories of stacking bails! seems like we always had to stack them on my buddies trick with a 8 inch lift and swampers... sucked!!! that is a ton of snow, like a unreal amount, i have never seen that much to be honest... i could see that getting old REAL fast. keep those animals warm and take care of yourself, how you doing?
Sorry Joe I just now checked this.
Guy I bought the hay from had a real nice operation. He baled 10,000-20,000 square bales each summer which he sells. Then he feeds 25-30 round bales a day to his cattle. That's a lot of f' hay. I'm embarrassed to say that we don't do anything near that :. Anyhow the machine he used to square bale did all the work. It has a flat bed that holds a row of 14 bales. Once filled it flips them (stacked) onto a trailer. The only time they touch the bales is to put them in the barn,... but with an elevator of course.
Back to the snow. The official count for this winter so far is 207.40" :'(
The official count for Feb was 139" We get our fair amount of snow but that set a new record. The second week of Feb i knew something was going on when we had 50" for the month already. That was ontop of the 86" from Jan and 43" from December. No damn wonder I was sick of snow. 207.40" and we are at march 3rd :'(. Some Marchs we get just a few inches but in 1990 we had 90" to fall that month:'( Our one month record was 104"set back in 77 I think. I'm praying everynight for NO MORE SNOW ;D
On a brighter side It is 35 today and very sunny. Calling for 51 Monday but I know that won't last. but the Sun today feels Awesome!
GRASS! DEAR GOD I CAN SEE THE GRASS! FUCK YOU WINTER, AND YOUR SNOW! Ya, I know... You'll sneak back up in a week or two, and completely fucking ruin any chance at long term happiness. Its what you do. Your a sneaky little bitch. You'll hide out in Nov, and watch the temps go up to the high 50s, and quietly laugh at all of us enjoying things like sunlight. Than BAM! Fuck you melatonin, and happiness. Back you come. Blocking out the sun, and freezing everyone in place for months. Damn you.
