doesn't he just want to sell the bike?

Exactly!!!

People are going to use terms that they believe will help market their particular item. Its the same with music, as someone else said earlier. New genres of music are created everyday with little "micro labels" within labels lol. Rock, Progressive Rock, Jam Band, Indy Rock, Metal, Death Metal, Classic Metal, Math Metal (give me a break). Ive seen tons of forums where there are huge arguments about which category a certain band fits into....what does it matter?

Its all labels and nothing more. If you truly "live" the cafe lifestyle and want to get offended by someone that you feel is abusing the name.....then think about what you are actually getting upset over. It really doesnt affect you, your bike, or how "cool" either is.

Im no hardcore cafe biker. Hell, I just got my first bike and really liked the cafe look and wanted to build mine in that style. As I got started, it seems to be taking on more of a streetfighter look. Makes no difference to me, as long as its different. Its all labels within labels within labels....when you have something that doesnt fit with a certain genre you try to come up with some mixture of labels to call it, and thus another label is born.

Sorry, I know Im "the new guy"<---label, but I really enjoy the site and get tons of information from here. Would make no difference to me if the site WAS called "Cafe Rusty Cycle" lmao

Cool reply, build what looks good to you and invent a genre later ;)

Is this concept different enough ?
based loosely on the RAAF P-40 kittyhawk.
Might take a few evolutions to get there, based on the cb chassis and engine with a ariel square 4 tank and z900 style tail piece
The tank means i can put the guages in it and keep the dash really clean.

These are the reverse leavers that will go on it, but first i need to track down a drum front end as most of the aussie ones have disk, orr move the master cylinde inside the fairing and run a hybid cable pull hydraulic setup.... we can only dream :)

so true, we live in a world that already has waaaaaaay too many labels. Cafe Racers has been described to me as more of a mind set then a certian kind of bike

Wow, I go to barber for the weekend and ANOTHER one of these threads pops up? ::)

Andreas, your asking an Aussie if he is serious?
Of course i am., Hilarious i can do :p ..
but yes that drawing is too scale with the profile of an ariel tank . but why not..
set trends dont follow them :--)

If it has a name already, you're copying a stlye. I had an art teacher that said if the style you are working in already has a name, then it is a dead art. Whoever made a name for themselves trying to out Da Vinci, Da Vinci? Can't be done.

For the love of god what the hell does it matter. If i was just anybody selling a bike, and the cafe craze hit i would rape the fuck outta it. The guy is selling a bike, half the globe is building cafe racers. Why wouldnt he put the word cafe. would you have looked otherwise? NO ONE is making you buy it.

I bought a set of bar end turn signals a few years ago off a guy on ebay selling bobber parts i resold the junk three weeks later for 75 dollars more than i paid. i put the word cafe in the title who is the dumbass, me or the 15 people that drove the price up.

If that kind of shit pisses you off life is gonna be tuff for ya man. And if you really want to get all first testament about it i dont recall any og mods VS rocker tales about a cb350 i bet there was one of two about a bmw. Relax, build your bikes dont worrie about shit you cant change. stop buying gt750 drums for 900 bucks and this craze will destroy it self, and we can get back to building bikes people look at funny

half the globe is building cafe racers. .................................. stop buying gt750 drums for 900 bucks .............................. - MY EDIT BRAD TO HIGHLIGHT THE POINTS [ BEACHCOMBER ]

We all have our own views on what a Cafe Racer is or isn't [ in historical terms it's a given ] ....... that's a debate, not an arguement, a bit like religion and politics.

However, you can't change a Historically used name - you could say - in the style of.

In reality it doesn't matter what the term used for the creation - as long as it's worthy of some name. Unlike a couple of pieces of crap named as Cafe Racers on the last TV series of that name.

As to the GT hubs - couldn't agree more, fortunately on this side of the pond we can buy BRAND NEW Grimeca 4LS - can I say - "Cafe Racer" hubs - cheaper than a secondhand GT 4LS version.

A year ago in the UK GT hubs were £150 - £200 [ $200 - $300 ? ] , now you can't find one for less than £500 - then you have to refurb it ! You could buy a Triumph / BSA conical rear hub/brake [ a year ago ] for £100 - then some clever folk found you could make a passable representation of a Manx hub .....price now £400 - £500.

Then take a look at the price of a Featherbed frame .........

Very true. I remember looking at a couple featherbed frames about 5 years ago, prices ranged from 900$ to 1400$. Now, forget it! 2000$, which may as well be 2,000,000 to me!

About 10 years ago [ when I "retired" and sold my business ] I decided I would build a balls-out Tribsa - in the style of bikes from my youth [ Cafe Racers ].

Actually, more in the style of my actual "Circuit Racer" Mk3 Tribsa.
Then I started looking at the various donor parts I would need ............OMG a RATTY B31/33 donor was in the region of £1200 - £1800 and a Straight port 500cc Grand Prix engine in any condition at all - a minimum of £800 !!

That's when I started looking again at BMW Airheads. After building a couple, I decided they weren't for me and spent a little time in the Wilderness with factory stock Moto Guzzi 1100 inj Sport and Centauros ....Then back to BMW Kay series for a spell with Streetfighters - alongside various mid capacity Japanese Twins [ too small ] before finalising on Yamaha's TR1 and XV920 models. That'll do for me.

BTW - just spotted a Featherbed [ frame only ] in a Classic bike mag for £1800.

Sorry, but man.. you guys take all this intro-net stuff way to seriously...

Fact is Caffs ARE popping up everywhere like a virus... it is what it is... anyone that actually loves building and riding them will be doing this well after the hack shops decide that there no longer the fad and now its mini bike racing ( p.s. if minibike racing becomes big I called It..LOL ) - you will all still be doing it..

After there are no more TV shows about it - you will still be doing it..

and after the markets settle down and basic standard bikes stop going for 4x there actual amount and settle back to where they should be - you will still be doing it..

Regardless of anyone else on this forum.. another forum or anywhere just keep in your mind this simple question... Why do I do what I do.. If your answer is not clearly "cause i love it" then stop now and turn the tv on to see the next big fad...

Otherwise-------------------------> dont take all this stuff so seriously.. JEESH..

p.s. Waffles kick ass!

Yep can read...

Point is you are a jerk that disses this forum.

I cannot stand duplicitous people.....................

Some of the comments you have made over "there"....are frankly......disgusting and demeaning to the people over here.

Regurgitated opininions.... and so called internet fact is your game......and nothing you have learnt for your self comes out of your keyboard.

Sit the fuck down...open your ears...and listen to people like Teazer, Swagger, Joe, Von, ADC and PJ and you WILL ACTUALLY learn something.

Then there is a ship load of other top people here that you could talk to to improve your shitty little life.................

You just dont get it do you?
am i your flavor of the week? didnt you just go though all this with someone else wanting people banned and all that junk?

Ive made no bones about the fact that im on both sites.
I am the same person here as i am there. I point out the same things here. But this site is different and i dont yell as loud here as i can over there. again they are different sites.

Honestly i cant even understand what you are saying at the end....
I know that there are people here to learn from and i have. Ive learned things here as well as many other sites.

Its the internet dude and you are the one that is not calm. NOTHING gets done here on the internet.

As for shitty little life dude give it a rest....you take every little thing and blow it up and then make it personal....dont know why you need to make it personal.....

If that's how you feel then it is what it is.
Again I have no idea why this has anything to do with this thread.
If there is an issue we have a PM system.

Hope we can all just move on and do what we are suppose to do...build bikes

This bbq pulled pork I got for lunch is probably the best bbq within a 20 mile radius.

just saying...

Funny i had the same thing for lunch but it was the costco reheat stuff.....not that great.

This was probably closer to KC style bbq. thicker sweet sauce with a kick of heat. I like em all, but living in Chicago, we mostly see KC style. This place has a carolina sauce, but it's not a good example, IMO. They should just stick to the KC style.
