so i'm making a seat...

Looks like crap eh??... so you think??... Well I think you'll feel differently when you see how good it looks on your bike!!..
Thats what building a cafe racer is all about... in the garage, improvising with what you have... And you didnt even weld a thing...

I think it looks awesome...

Cant wait to see it on your bike!!

thanks. unfortunately i havent had my bike so i hope everything lines up alright...altho since its the stock seat pan, im sure it will be fine.

for anyone wondering...it appears that i used buttons to attach the vynil but what happened was that i couldnt get the snaps to stay on the actual seat pan so i used velcro instead. it just looks like im using buttons.

thanks guys

i should also mention that with materials, tank, and time, i've spent maybe 3 hours on this plus about ...eh..$50 bucks

i want to build another one just to see how many different ways i can make this work.

SOme one is going to put Benji out of business....

any examples of Benji's seats? i love looking at different styles and gathering ideas for things i'll make in the future. of course i dont want to "steal" anyones ideas but i really appreciate other peoples craftsmanship

hahaha no way i could ever be that resourceful...those are professional grade seats...mine are hunks of metal thrown together with some vynil. ;D

ok so i didnt like the way the cowl looked with an exposed edge so i changed it.

my first seat too! i see where you're comin from and can't wait to make my next one based on what i've learned... but good job!

thanks. i'd actually thought about the string idea but found that velcro can be removed more quickly to allow for seat cover changes on a whim...but how often does one really need to change his seat cover? haha

it also allows me to switch from the cover with buttons to the cover without buttons. anyway good idea

yep, i hear ya man, i thought of the velcro idea too actually. but now i want to make another seat which means i prolly wont be goin back and forth different seats cuz the next one will be more comfortable. so getting one seat done without using other options is the best way to go, imho, even though it didn't take long to re-string the thing, i just feel that i won't go back to my old seat once i make the next one, so i'll prolly stick to stringin it again... ;D but yeah, it was fun makin it huh?!

well as it turns out, the velcro is not holding. i think its because the vynil is stretched so tightly but the velcro is starting to peel away from the seat pan. im making another seat cover and will still be using velcro but it wont be stretched as tight this time.

ok re-did the vynil and this time i didnt stretch it so tight so its less likely to start coming apart on me. i also took the opportunity to get my stitching looking more uniform. check it out

and check out my zigzag stitching. much more uniform

hm my pics arent working

I like the roughness of the finish that seat!!..
to me its the way a true cafe racer should be, done at home in the garage, done cheap, done by the owner, with lots of improv...no trailer queen or all the bling...

Im gonna do another seat.. I just got the tank that Im gonna use... now Im looking for a good cb550f seat pan
