So what is a NOS Honda GB500 tank worth?

My neighbor mentioned to me he has a NOS OEM Honda GB500 gas (fuel petrol) tank in the factory box he was considering modifying for a project. I told him to stop immediately and if he sold it as is on E-bay he may see $1000 or more. He did not believe me but I am going to photograph it next week and list it for him. It will be fun to see what this goes for at auction. I will post images and a link later this week.

Geebs are rare-ish Honda 500cc single cylinder bikes that were a throwback to classic British singles like my beloved Gold Stars, Manx Nortons and AJS's. A NOS tank is pure unobtanium.

Is yours the one just recently listed? Was just looking out of curiosity.

Will be interesting to see. For $1000 someone could have their GB500 tank perfectly restored I'd expect, but of course it wouldn't be 'original'. I like the bike, but I'm not sure they've reached the point (or ever will) of being so collectible that a NOS tank is worth more than it would cost to repaint an old one.

No we have not listed it yet. He is going to bring it to the Winona Riders's shop later this week so I can photograph then list it. Rare indeed and who knows what this will go for. GB500 are highly desirable bikes for collectors. I have seen one on the back roads near me a few times but have never ridden one.

There's a NOS one up there now, opening bid is $300 with no bidders and 7 days to go, so I'd wait a week.

Wow, thanks Tim. We will keep an eye on this.

I see the bikes in Walnecks now, I believe they are reaching "collector" status. Prices are more than I imagined they'd ever be. Honda was a tad too early for the Cafe' resurection as far as styling trends go and they really didn't sell well back in their day. I on the otherhand, drooled over the GB at our local dealership when they were new... many, many times. Across the Pond however they were available for a longer period and in different sizes...

The NOS GB500 tank in the original box just sold for $789 on EBay.

I'm still interested in buying one to fix up a dropped GB500.

Thanks
Chet

$800 is a reasonable price for a NOS tank, given how much it would cost to have a professional replicate the stock paint job.

Alright, finally saw the tank and learned it was never used because of
UPS damage during shipping. There is a dent where the seat meets the tank, but a good and experienced dent puller could pull it. Here it is:

For a tank that was never used that thing is covered in fine scratches. Did this guy clean it a thousand times?
