This bike has BC license Plates, I'm almost certain I saw it for sale online somewhere. Maybe it was just a build thread. Can't remember where I saw it though.

Seems like the carb would be in the way of your knee in that position, but it sounds like it runs great!

DuH, it was here on DTT. link in on the first page "Justin Holt's CB400T" https://plus.google.com/photos/106537689890008441029/albums/5482412697652095233?banner=pwa

Is the battery on these bikes hidden or simply done away with? If so, how exactly do you get rid of the battery all together, I've heard a little about something called a capacitor?
Oh, by the way, I have also been working on a CM400a project. It's not a bobber, racer, or rat... Kind of a "Frankenstein" build... I just started building without a plan and this is what I ended up with! :)

Most have the battery relocated under the seat in some way, typically in the "Cafe" Hump. Some relocate to swing arm, many replace with a smaller battery.

There are kits available to eliminate the battery like :

http://accel-motorcycle.com/motorcylce-and-atv/tune-up-components/battery-eliminator-kit.html

If you plan to elimnate the battery....do you have a kick start? Cuz you will need one with out a battery.... how will you run your starter?

My starter motor went out a couple weeks ago and it is the 3rd one that I have purchased and installed. The bad part about eBay is that even when the sellers say that it is working, it seems to me that it is still a 50/50 chance of getting an item that truly works. Anyway, I started kick-starting my bike and I am perfectly happy with the process. I think that I want to eliminate the battery and simply go "Bare-Bones" on this bike... Thanks for the link! :)

Glad to hear you have a kicker.... not real familiar with the "A" automatic model. My experience has been that the 80 and later "T" models and "C" models did not have a kicker, good luck.

Battery Replacement

I replaced my battery with a very small 4s A123 Lithium Ion battery harvested form a Dewalt 36v drill pack. It's really small, really light quite powerful, and can be hidden just about anywhere on the bike. might be an easy alternative to completely removing the battery.

A bit more info on my batt here:
http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=35160.msg385511#msg385511

I have reconfigured the battery to a flat inline 4 pack, and it now sits in the little plastic toolkit box under the seat.

Just want to thank the thread owner for starting this thread and all the contributors. When I found this thread, I read the title and thought: yes, exactly. Your builds have given me the confidence that I can do this. Looking forward to posting my progress. I will make a build thread for mine soon.

Happy Spring,

AJP

Exactly why I started this thread, Welcome aboard!

Hello all! My name is John Connolly, building a 81 CM400C here in the mountains of North Carolina. I finally broke my homemade spring compressor yesterday and was wondering if someone could recommend a good quality tool that isn't going to cost more than a new set of shocks. Hope everyone has a great tournament! ROCK CHALK!!!

Well it looks like we are finally getting accepted as a platform for a Cafe' with Sin City's 400-CR Nomination for "Bike Of The Month" last month ......... and believe it or not......My CM400

Thanks Gary & True Punk for the Nomination and Second. I have some stiff competition, but feel like a winner already just being nominated.

Calling all 400's ....the gauntlet has been thrown down and the 2 smoke guys are already circling the wagons around Cobraace2's Gorgeous H1. We can't let the "Blue Smoke" guys run with it 2 months in a row (Drewski's Triple Won April) ..... ;)

Any opinion on how much exhaust wrap it would take to wrap the factory headers on the CB400? A local is selling what is left from a roll he bought for a project. Is ~30' enough?

IMO 30' is not enough to do from flange to crossover on both pipes I think you are looking at about 45 to 50 total feet to get the right amount of overlap. Quick tip I picked up, ..Start at the End and wrap toward the flange/cylinders this way the overlaps lay down in a manor that road wing won't try and lift up the wrap.
