Soda blast using a paint or sandblast gun.

Been Around the Block
Hi all,

I've trialed the 'home made' sand blast that others have referenced and it is painful. So I've been thinking about alternatives.

I've got a compressor, a sandblast gun and a paint gun at home. Can I put the soda in either of the guns I have?

I'm being cheap and don't want to buy another contraption.

And if I'm being a princess, let me know that too.

Cheers,
Damian.

Hey Damian, I had the same thing with the home made soda blaster. After a lot of reading I found that bi carb soda is to light to blast with and that you need soda blasting material.
I also looking into using a blasting cabinet for soda blasting but soda cannot be recycled like sand is. One of the main problems with using soda in a sand blaster is how they draw the material through.
If you have a portable sand blaster at home you may as well give it a try. I would imagine that it would work. I would not put soda in a spray gun though, unless you are prepared to clear ever nook and cranny for hours to try and remove it all. It messes with paint and needs to be thoroughly removed before paint is applied.

Hope that helps. I got sick of it and just went to a soda blaster, he missed a few spots so I am still cleaning as I go.

Hey Brodie.

Thanks for the headsup. I'll try the sand blaster (in vain) then go find my local soda blast guy.

Cheers,
Damian

You can get a soda blaster from harbor freight for about 90 bucks. They sell the media as well.

They also have a spot blasting gun that will work as well (albeit slower, since you have to reload often) but its cheap.

The spot blasting gun works very well and they go on sale for $19 about twice a year. Sonic's spot on, though. The reservoir is embarrassingly small. It will empty in about a minute if you're using it continuously.

A gravity feed gun with a large enough tip (bed liner tip) would probably flow enough volume to be useful but you'd have to block off the atomizer ports.

Not sure I would bother, though, with the HF stuff being so inexpensive.

That's prolly lacquer....didn't have urethane paint in those days...She prolly had COPD and emphysema in later life from the unfiltered Chesterfields she smoked anyway....

Still, looks like she is hot enough not to need heat lamps...
