The engine is turning over, its just not starting
Check for spark maybe?
Check all the wiring in the ignition circuit? Maybe something came loose during your ride.
someone told me it could be the cam chain slipped a tooth and its now out of time... that had me worried i hope it is just something with spark or wiring. I will check for spark and go over the wiring tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. I am pretty new to wrenching on motorcycles so troubleshooting is the hardest thing for me.
You took it for a drive and then came back, parked it and shut it off, and then 20 minutes later it won't start? Or it died on you and you had to get it home somehow?
It's likely something simple. A wire came loose, a fuse is blown, not enough gas, the kill switch is turned off, etc... Check the basic stuff.
Here is the full story. I rewired the bike started it up took it for a ride and it died after about 20mins i was pretty sure I needed a new stator so I replaced the stator and the stator rotor took it for another ride. After about 20mins it died again. My friend tried to give me a jump it would idle but anytime I would give it gas it would die then all the sudden after cranking it for 15mins the starter was making a horrible noise. I had the bike trailer-ed to my garage. I found that i forgot to put the spacer behind the starter kog so i did that and put it back together. Before that though I took off the chain tensionor to get the starter cover off (I didn't know i didn't have to do that) I put everything back together then when I tried to start I could hear the cam chain wrapping against the valve cover I forgot to reset the chain tensioner. So I did that now it doesn't wrap any more... it sounds like the starter is engaging now the bike just isnt starting. Video posted below of what it sounds like.... thanks for reading and any help would be appreciated. I am new to motorcycle wrenching as you can tell from my post lol.
