Solar powered Cafe

I know a student here at Purdue who took a Suzuki and built himself the ultimate MPG machine. He did everything himself and has multiple batteries that he says can get him around 45 miles without recharging. He folds out the solar panels when he parks and they continue to charge when he rides.

I thought other people would like to see this, I know the person so if there are any real questions about it I could get a hold of him.

Quote about the last picture:

Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: Actually, I have no idea.
Cop: Your taillight is out. What kind of motorcycle is this?
Me: It's a 1978 Suzuki GS550.
*Cop stares at me*
Me: Well, I mean I made some modifications.....

*Second squad car arrives*
Cop 2: And what were you doing?
Me: I was doing science, sir.

would like to know more about what type of motor setup he's running, dc? ac induction? dc brushless? this is way cool

Even better when you live in the great white north and almost every work place has a plug in for your car in the winter. You can plug it in and charge up that way too.

I dont know about calling it a cafe'... Does it weigh a ton?

"I was doing science, Sir"

Hahahahahahahahhahahaa, I think my whole neibourhood heard.

bike's lookin' good bud, keep it up!

Very interesting project:) I know a couple guys in electrical bikes and it can get really complicated technically. Would love to see more info!

love it! ive been interested in the electrical bikes lately (imagine full torque from 0 rpm!) but i dont think ill ever be able to live without the grumble of burning fuel....

haha, love the last pic! and the quote, even better.

you would think that he would check the bulbs on the bike with the entire thing being electric ;)

what kind of power is he making? gearing? more info!

Awsome build there. I would still add a tank on there or make a tank shaped lid to hide some of the wiring. I think it's probably a great around town /city bike, but what is the max speed the bike will do?

This is Tony Coiro's bike, he posts over at elmoto.net (the electric motorcycle forum). I'll make him aware of this thread if you guys have any more questions.

Off topic:^^^ best avatar ever man ^^^

On topic: That bike is sweet. I like the idea of a false tank to hide some of the electronics. If you could make the solar panels look like side panels/fairings that would be doubly sick.
