Some have it so good... Hwy 56

Hoosier Daddy

Earache my eye...
Just got back late last night from a week long Workshop down in Tennesee. I stayed in Cookeville and drove a rental car every day to Smithville. Was told it's only about 2 hours from the Dragon Tail but every day wished I had brought one of my bikes.
Highway 56 is a beatiful, clean, smooth, twisty length of pavement that seems to be a perfect setting for a TT. And to make it even better the weather was perfect!
I only drove it for 15 miles but if you find yourself on highway 40 a little east of Nashville, take this little side route... BREATH TAKING!

I'm glad you got to see it! I live a couple hours away but have yet to ride a bike on it. We did traverse it in a loaded down jeep with a kayak on top haha!

The Fontana lake dam area is freaking spectacular around the area. They take pictures along the road and post them at the end of the day and at the "gift shop" at the beginning they have pics of all the people caught in the middle of a wreck. It's pretty awesome.

Oh yeah, riding the Dragon Tail is on my bucket list. I've read it has gotten so nuts one of the county's has stopped ambulance service along it. (blame those Damn Squids)

But this stretch of 2 lane road was just remarkable. No gravel on the turns, smoooooth.... Tight "S's" with some longer sweepers back and forth... with elevation changes thrown in....
Can't imagine how many others are hidden there waiting for me to return. ;)

Do it! Be careful on the blue ridge parkway though. Apparently getting a speeding ticket there is a federal offense. Happened to my fiancées brother haha. Speeding tickets start at $1000 and go up from there...
