someone talk me out of this

Here is my Buell. Personally I think they are ugly and boring bikes. I bought it because it suited my need for a cheap and 'reliable' modern bike to scoot around on while cafe projects fall apart (like always) I use it to get more experience with highway and passenger riding. My wife uses it to learn on. For those purposes it is fantastic.

I took most of the ugly stuff like the flyscreen, indicators, mirrors and decals. The beefy under exhaust also gives it a nice non lawn mower sound. I would give it lower bars but the sitting position makes it difficult. All of your weight has to be right up against the tank for it to handle well, and forces you into a very upright scooter position. In general, lower bars on it definitely hit your knees and tank and all you have ended up with is an uncomfortable, poorer handling bike.

My opinion? Cafe something cooler. A blast will always just be a blast unless you invest thousands into the thing. Even then you would have to put up with the occasional blast joke.

I hope no one thinks it is too sacrilegious to have the DTT vinyl on there haha.

well my plan was going to be a new frame and such for it, I'd been looking into an older harley engine but decided maybe the single cylinder blast would be in my budget and just as fun.

I thought you wanted to get talked out of this thing?! haha

Really if you have your heart set on the engine then go for it, but I think you could get a far better engine for the same price and without having to go out and buy hex tools or deal with the pretty serious thumper vibrations it puts out. (I have to tighten stuff on it ALL the time)

I keep finding reasons to build it every time I think of something and liking it more then using the older evo motor which cost more. lol

I've looked at a few other motors and just think it is my cup of tea lol

Dude, forget the Blast. Contrary to their name, they're not a blast to ride. They're dull and seriously lacking hp. Stick with the old engines you know so much about and that have the aftermarket support without the H-D price tags.

The parts for the engine aren't too bad on cost, least I don't think they are bad. plus cant really think of anything with the kinda aftermarket the hd does thats aircooled and simple

My favorite is the late 2010 model.

"...Through an innovative process known as crushing, we’ve turned a limited number of Blasts into colorful metal cubes, each numbered and signed by Erik Buell himself."

...that's not really true though I actually made a rendering of one stripped down to the essentials that I really liked.

If all your' tools are already metric though, I'd look elsewhere :)

Now I know why people say they were average bikes - I mean, put that engine in a nice lightweight chassis with a sporty riding style and it'd probably be alright.... but the Blast is downright average.

Personally I would be more tempted by the similarly specced, readily available, cheap & reliable Suzuki GS500. Lots of tuning info and aftermarket support for them and decent engine potential, too.

Cheers - boingk

Why a Blast?!? The entire XB line are modern day cafes, no heavy cosmetic mods necessary... and they have decent power (for a HD based engine, that is). Buy an XB. I think it sucks greatly, but guys are practically giving them away on ebay. Shame...

I thought about using the XB engine in one, but I kinda wana do a classic style cafe with a more modern engine (hah harley engine and modern)

thos bike look like something that robo cop would have (trying way to hard to look kool and modern and failing) and at the end of the day a old school 250 ninja and there 87 chevy s-10 head light is still gonna be a better bike cafe a early gsxr at least then it not an harley and you wont have to rub snuff and beat your old lady to own it
