Hey guys, sorry about this i'm new an already bringing you my problems. Anyways, my problem is similar to woody 1981's. As I took my bike out for a ride, about a mile or two down the road I was getting a boggy sound. As i gave it more gas nothing happened, felt like it wasn't getting any fuel. As I pulled over to check it out it died on me. Petcock was in the correct position an I had enough gas. The ride back was the same with it dying on me at the stops. It ran perfect about a week ago. Here's what I've done to it: attached a slip on exhaust 4-2, where I had to cut the old header off an fit the new one's on. They didn't clamp down as tight as I would have liked could this be it. I also took off the gas tank to prep for paint. The gas flowed out of the petcock normal but was a little dirty. Could this be part of the problem or do I have to adjust my carbs due to the 4-2 exaust? Thanks!

It sounds to me like either you have crap in your gastank, a kinked fuel line, or a vaccuum problem. My buddy once used an unvented cap on his gastank, and his bike kept crapping out. It can't me an exhaust problem in my estimation.

If it runs for a bit, and then if you leave it, it'll run again, I'd bet kinked line first.

If the gas was coming out dirty than there might be something clogged... hopefully not anything in your carbs, but possibly.

When you check that fuel line for kinks, take it off and install an inline fuel filter (any autoparts place for cheap).

And don't worry about the exhaust... you have a fuel delivery problem IMO.
My bet is on the dirty gas.

Also, you might want to drain the tank and pull the petcock to see if it's filter is clogged... but if that sounds scary just try the inline filter/kinked line first. ;)

Just removed the petcock an boy was it filthy! I'm sure I can find some threads on here on how to take apart an clean. Thanks guys!

It's real easy to take apart, I disassembled mine and put it back together. You need to be careful if it has that screened reserve tube though, they are fragile. I kind of ripped mine up.
